Well the Roon app is having problems for year like choppy scrolling and even though it’s structured and provides a lot of very useful information, its user experience doesn’t match for example JPlay.
Will try JPLAY and Audirvana when Grimm Audio updates the software for the MU2. Roon via the MU2 is very good as long as you reboot the MU2 after a Roon upgrade. Don't know why this works, but it does.
I typically start Roon Remote from my mac (choose music, etc.), then use my iPhone. Works fine for me. No issues. To read about musicians and the like, a large monitor is best anyway.
This is well documented at Roon forum - and they confirmed it too. The reason is known as the Roon app is not a native app rather than some mobile framework. https://community.roonlabs.com/t/laggy-choppy-scrolling/291921 and many more bug reports for years. But that is just the tip of the iceberg, many reports about lacking sound quality etc.
(And it’s also known that users get silenced when repeatedly asking for bug fixes or not behaving like their moderators want them to be.Bur that is a different story. Just so you get a better understanding of the mindset and the approach of Roon‘s team)
Fair enough I guess. I have not experienced the choppy scrolling issue you referred to and I have used Roon for years, so obviously I was unaware of it being an issue. Sounds more like an internet problem to me.
Sound quality is important but in case you haven't noticed there is little agreement about what that might be in all things audio. It's half the fun of the forum, lol! Having said that I have not explored other apps for years so it is quite possible that a particular app might offer better or at least different sound quality. One would wonder if there is any consensus on this or is it system related.
As far as users being silenced by the Roon moderators it's the first I have heard of it. Perhaps your accusations are correct but excuse me for not accepting them until I hear from other sources.
So an update as I did look at the link provided. It was a discourse that was all over the place, far from what I would call documented. Also I wasn't sure if this was a current thread. Sketchy evidence of any real issues in my opinion.

There are 7 people in that 21 post thread you linked to complaining about choppy scrolling (and 2 who didn’t experience it). Counting myself, 4 people in this thread have not experienced the problem. That makes it seem like kind of a wash as far as this thread is concerned.

Well this was just the very first link that came up, there are many more and far older ones. I am a lifetime user and have been using it since version 1.4. So Roon itself is confirming the problem, even if some users don’t experience it that much.

Well glad you are not having any problems. Though there are many users that regularly report about this bug (and many others that didn't get fixed for years due to some technical limitations). For example even in this linked thread user Suedkiez who is doing community management for Roon is mentioning that "The regular phone app is known to have choppy scrolling on 120 Hz phones". He posted also here https://community.roonlabs.com/t/roon-remote-app-is-still-a-laggy-mess/260971/8
And to get an idea how long this problem exists and has been confirmed by Roon technical stuff have a look at https://community.roonlabs.com/t/ip...-and-choppy-scrolling-investigating/170991/18
So to sum it up - Roon did confirm it, and problem like that exist for years.

That's funny, this is his tagline... SuedkiezJust a fellow user like you
Perhaps you should let him know he's now an official representative of the company? As far as the scrolling problem, it's limited to specific types of phones which explains why neither I nor most users have a problem with it. The UI on a phone is almost unusable which is not the fault of Roon, the screen is just too small. I personally think they made a mistake even offering the ability to use a phone as a remote but good for them for trying I guess. It's the same as trying to watch a movie on your phone. You can do it but there are far better options available.
Hahah well you can hear from someone like him or from the Roon staff people I liked too. So what is the point here?! They confirmed the bug years ago, and it's still annoying many users (which you will see when reading through hundreds of comments of related bug reports). The thing of "it's limited to specific types of phones" is no outdated spec rather than something that is increasingly getting common like 120hz displays. And you obviously didn't ready into these bug reports as the bug not only affects phones but also tablets etc.
So the underlying root cause is that Roon is using a mobile framework that isn't optimized for modern devices and thus causing problems.
As many users have expressed over the years: for a paid solution like Roon this is very hard to accept. Imagine you are watching your favorite films on a modern device/TV and every few seconds there is stuttering.

Like even the largest companies, I’m sure Roon has to decide where best to use their resources. As a Lifer since 2017 and a month to month user before that, my preference is that they go after the problems that affect the most users, not something that only affects a much smaller group. My impression from this exchange is that Roon is horrible for your use and you should probably be using something else. However, it works very well for me and I hope to be able to continue using it for years to come.
Lifetime software subscriptions always carry the risk that there is other better software available. Some change, some stick to where they have invested their money and emotions.

Well Roon is no longer independent since the takeover. And there are many problems affecting an even larger user base for years.
Thus even as a lifetime user for so many years I stopped using Roon in favor of JPlay & HQPlayer which provides not only a better sound quality but also a far more stable user experience on their apps.
I purchased a lifetime Roon subscription a lifetime ago. Sunk cost. Have gotten more than my money's worth. I'm spoiled because the Grimm Audio products handle Roon well and sounds great. Have no idea if other streamers handle Roon less well.
Qobuz integration is very important to me. An audiophile friend who uses Audirvana and tried Qobuz didn't like the integration and found it frustrating. He learns software easily, but perhaps the interface is clunky. Roon kept discovering new music from Qobuz and I would send him recommendations once I had listened to them. Audirvana wasn't doing that for him.
If JPLAY or Audirvana is better, I will purchase one and try it for a year.
I use Qobuz with Audirvana as well as local file streaming. In terms of user interface, I have gotten used to Audirvana interface and it's not bad. Roon does have a better interface but it comes at a price of lower sound quality in my experience and those of a few friends.
I do not consider myself to have golden ears.
Perhaps not enough people care or even hear the difference in sound quality to convince Roon that it's worthwhile for them (Roon) to increase efforts in the sound quality department. Perhaps this explains the current state of affairs. I can only speculate.
I also noticed that Qobuz Connect sound quality is not as good as Qobuz through Audirvana in my experience.
For the record, I never have had scrolling problems with Roon. My only complaint is sound quality.
