So are you saying that one configuration is the Jadis on the mid range and tweeter and the Italian amp on the woofer?
No I am talking about Jadis full range versus MastersounD full range.

Are you conflating brightness with more detail and resolution?
No; I'm well aware of how brightness in the presence region can be misinterpreted as detail and resolution.

Phil 213Cobra said firmly that he hears the Italians as having better "tonality" than the frenchies. He agrees with me on the resolution point. Phil also heard greater depth and better sound-staging with the Italians.

This is a much more detailed response to the sonic differences the mirror earlier simple statement.

He is also conflating more musicality, sonic charm, and fullness of Jadis vs DHT with better ability to drive. Well matched and well done DHT amps have way more musicality and sonic charm with fullness. NAF2a3, airtight 300b, master sound 845, silvercore 833c were all better than the 100w Jadis integrated on Devore O96. So it is more to do with amp and speaker match rather than simply saying what Jadis is better at or what Italians and DHTs are not good at

OK, I misunderstood. You had written that your friends preferred the Jadi driving the midrange and tweeter when you wrote this: "For the record, the favorite iteration of the system so far of Don and of and of David Blumenstein and of Jim Yager and of Pat and of Pat's girlfriend had Jadis driving the midrange/tweeter." What was driving the woofer?

I see. Yesterday you described the "Italians" as sounding bright. Today you describe them as having more detail and resolution. Is the sudden change in presentation due to break in, tube swaps or something else?

NAF 2A3 is a push/pull amp, not SET.

Westminster labs?

Ron said he is comparing the Mastersound and the Jadis amplifiers both running full range, but I still can’t make sense of the earlier comment that his friends preferred the Jadis driving the mid range and tweeter. Maybe that was an earlier configuration with it third amplifier driving the woofers. It’s all rather confusing to me.

Yes I think that was an SS amp. Either the Westminster or something else. Tough to keep up with all the box swaps

.

I think the aesthetic design of the amp is beautiful (as audio components go). It still puzzles me why this is the only 845 x 4 PSET in the world.
Unison Research Reference amps: As far as I know very few, if any at all have been imported into the USA, I was only able to listen to a pair in Europe in early 2000s. Bonzo75 & Morricab should know more about these.....1746396470486.png

I think I'm about at 90 hours. It's definitely heading in the right direction.

I hear, and Don hears, and I think Phil hears, the Italians are sounding a little more powerful on the speakers than the JA100s.
90 hours , you still need quite a bit longer.

Never heard this one but not a big fan of Unison amps...at least the ones I have heard.

They are usually quite low watt and even for the wattage have less drive than some other amps. Look nice but nothing special

Are the Frenchies sounding nasally?

My dear friend Robbes, a former recording engineer, and a recent West Hollywood addition to the Orange County Audio Posse, has heard my system around 12 times over the last two years.

1) He hears the improvement of the Italians in resolution and depth over the Jadis that Phil and I hear.

2) He thinks I'm overstating the edginess/brightness issue.

3) He totally thinks these Italians are keepers.

4) He asked me to connect the long interconnects from the preamp directly to the MastersounD amplifiers, rather than going through the Gryphon woofer towers and their internal through-put. He is confident he heard an improvement in smoothness and reduced distortion by not going through the Grypon through-put. This is with the Gryphon woofer towers completely off.

Other than extra connectors and an extra bit of wire I don't know why we would hear a difference. I am not convinced that anything in the Gryphon woofer tower is loading down the preamp when the woofer tower is off and I am using only this unadulterating through-put.

Why would you route the interconnects through the Gryphon woofer towers if you aren’t using them? That adds two connection interfaces and a second set of interconnects to the 47 foot chain. Seems silly even if it doesn’t impact the sound…which it might.

I guess in the end if the MasterSound amps don’t lose this edginess that is bothering you the question then becomes can you live with it? It doesn’t matter if your friend thinks you are making too much out of it…he won’t be listening day in and day out to it. If it rose to the level of annoyance to me, then the amps would be gone once I was sure I tried what I could to eliminate the issue.

What preamp are you using currently while waiting for your Incito S?

This is like a soap opera, just when you thought you have seen it all there is a twist. As Brad and I are always in complete agreement, nothing more to add apart from what he said on why routing via woofers - why not take it direct?

More like an episode of "Stranger things"...

This is why I like matched or proven systems versus this never ending tweaking and suffering by piecing together all these oddball components trying to come up with something that works. The break-in in this case seems more like the breakdown of you mentally until you are forced to accept the new component.
