State of the industry - Roy Gregory Editorial

nice segue, but its like a ‘the Birds” film of audio equipment , there is so much equipment peddling, I am beginning to think the “ natural sound movement” has struck a chord ( pun unfortunate but also kind of funny) that not all is rosy in the “technically advanced camp” that Lee is pushing and lecturing us on high from his mighty TAS pulpit ( ps they don’t do measurements ….could that be none of them could actually interpret them, or might expose their first Tier components inadequacy ?…… conspiracy, conspiracies, a horse for my conspiracies

I am not really a fan of horror films but the two that scared the beejeezus out of me were Hitchcoc's The Birds, and James Arness in The Blob in the Artic.

I agree that there are/were appearances of jealousy and maybe perception of lecturing in natural sound threads. We each are accountable for what we write. If any of what you say is true I think it was recognized but did not go over that well. Dogs bark, the caravan moves on.

Honestly I am not sure what are discussing o_O
Another question though, Tim. Was your trip to David’s paradigm shifting in the same way it was for Peter? Or had you enough previous exposure to that kind of gear in the past to have some idea what to expect?

Thanks - this is a question more my style.

It was first hand exposure to four speakers I never heard using equipment that I have heard. Inasmuch as I attribute my accolades for David's rooms and gear to the Lamm electronics, I won't go so far as saying it was a paradigm shift because they are as responsible as the AS200, the Bionors, the TADs and the JBLs. I will describe it as revelatory and an opportunity to hear further and deeper into what Lamm is capable of yielding. But yes, there was a sublime constancy in tenor and forthrightness to all the speakers we heard that has not left me nor will I forget. Will that gnaw on me - yeah it will :)

You have Wilson Alexias as well as Lee, right? Have since that visit reassessed what they do well and you like compared to what impressed you at David’s? Wondering what a critical analysis yields in that regard? Which system did you like (as in it might give the most long term satisfaction) the most there?

This a conversation best had in @Peter's Utah Visit thread. Kindly repost #1526 and #1527 there and I will respond.

If you don't know how, click reply on your #1527, then click the very last three dots in the menu line above, then click the brackets [ ].

Copy all you see in your #1527 to your clip board. Go to the above link and copy into in the first open post. Put an "@tima" in it.

Much easier way. After hitting reply in message to be transposed you simply click and drag up through it from where your cursor has landed outside of the quote box.

Above is a screenshot showing cursor position you would drag upwards from. Below depicts stopping point while preparing to copy message is "T" in This instead of "t" in tima. Just click and drag ? copy ? paste almost anywhere on the site you desire. No chances for error or missattribution. :)

They are from the early 90s and inflation is far higher than your example
Ah, sorry. $5k Canadian in 1995 would be worth…$6.6k US today. Inflation from the ‘90’s through to today is far less than you think.

Rant rant rant from all sides, and I am guilty of some as well. I joined to learn more about R2R resources, but since knowledgable members in that area also post at other, less rancorous forums I think I will retreat to them.

Separately, cricket has gone downhill too, because of T20. It is the mp3 equivalent to the tapes of 5 day test cricket, or the 5 minute pop song to the long symphony. There is therefore a loss of talent in certain aspects.

In video spirit, how SS cone owners feel when they listen to a good pair of SETs horns

I'm smiling but I have to say....I would have never bet that in a million years, I'd see a clip of groin injuries from Cricket here on WBF. Talk about OT! (And it's my fault!) No more please!

Talk about OT! (And it's my fault!)

OT is not your fault, Marty. The only consistent theme of this thread is OT

Thanks Tim, will edit to clarify. I was folllwing on in support of what Peter had said. Sorry if it read otherwise.

An interesting interview with Audio Note about the state of the audio industry

Can you please summarize? I don't watch talk videos on audio

There may be some finesse in your numbers with the Canada to US exchange rate fluctuations, but within the US, the Dollar purchasing power has almost been cut in half since 1995.
