I went looking for a violin video thread but found only one by @morricab who wanted only solo or small ensemble. Lots of fine violin concertos out there, so here is a thread for all violin music.

-- self-recorded Audio System videos only, please --
... and catalog nbrs really help.

Britten Violin Concerto Op.15
Ida Haendel with Paavo Berglund and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra
mvmnt II, Vivace scherzo

EMI ASD 3483

Beethoven

Beethoven Oistrakh in mono

As we already have a functioning thread up to and including Ensemble , would it not make far more sense to introduce a thread specifically for Orchestral up to Full Symphony Violin performance ?

More Beethoven

Actually that thread has both it started as solo/small, but there wasn't any point having too many threads so it extended to more. But always happy to post videos in the hope some new people wll see it and maybe post their own.

I have two videos both of Ida Haendel playing Britten's Violin Concerto. One is with the Colibri Grand Cru, the other is with the vintage Ortofon Sl-15. Very different presentations.

One of the reasons why the results are very different in both videos is that they are not taken at the same distance from the speakers. There's a lot more reverb on the second video, and the tonal balance is different between the two. So any difference in cartridges is going to be masked by these differences. If you think that the differences can be the result of the cartridges, then one of the cartridges must be faulty...

The camera and mic location is exactly the same. The focal length of the lens just changed on the camera. The differences you hear are a slightly different volume, the cartridges and the SUTs. There is definitely a difference in tone between the two cartridges. The Colibrí has more emphasis on the high frequencies and it does not have the mass. But the resolution is slightly higher. The result is two different presentations.

The cartridges sound different through the system just as different records sound different.

Then something is wrong with one of the two setups...
