Comparing reissues is however, is frought with problems and often leads us to erroneous conclusions as we rarely know whether the remastered or even the original LP was cut with the master tape or a copy or copy of a copy (or nowadays a digital copy but that is usually evident almost immediately). Record companies are loathe to send the precious and fragile master tapes to just anybody nowadays; they'd much rather send a back up tape or digital copy!
I do not have that much yet Myles, the Late Night Show (both) are great IMO, Muthspiel is very good as well following Nouvelle Cusine. Renato Borghetti is a great sounding tape but content is average.
Ordering five more just as soon as this guys return my emails
i'm almost scared to ask...i have the remastered Sonny Rollins Saxophone Colossus on CD...how much better is the tape version? (please be kind in your words, for those of us who dont do tape).

I can't say a word about differences since I do not own that particular CD version Lloyd, but overall differences between the best digital titles I have (sonically speaking) to tape ones is quite dramatic, to the extent that nevertheless I own around 500 CDs and "just" about 30 tape/albums, 2/3ths of my listening time is spent on tape as main source.
Yes, titles are VERY limited and the ritual to play RtR is cumbersome, but again, the experience is just great and rewards all these years of trial&error assembling a hi-end system and takes one to a level of satisfaction that is very close to the live event.
OK...that was kind. and your "stats" speak volumes about the quality of the tape playback. doing the simple math...that would make tape just under 12x better than CD! hah! (5% of your collection being played 66% of the time)...would love to hear tape someday.
15 ips 2 track tape will spoil you. Last night I listened to the M&K D2D "For Duke." I for one find this to be an incredible sounding LP. The track "Take the A Train" has a coronet that comes in and makes me blink my eyes involuntarily every time I hear it. When it comes in, it is so powerful and so real sounding, it causes the involuntary reaction of blinking your eyes.
She did several albums...i've auditioned them all quickly on Amazon before buying the 2 i thought were good: the Naked Truth and the Notorious KIM. If you quickly look them up on Amazon.com, you should be able to listen and judge for yourself...felt the rest were so-so. IMHO.
ahhhh...i have Monk's two Genius of Modern Music sessions with Blue Note remastered, i also have a 24-bit remaster of Supreme...have not heard the others...must be good! enjoy!
I just bought a sealed Monk with Duke Ellington LP last night. I went to play it and the damn thing is so warped I won't play it. I also bought a Bill Evans has friends LP and it sounds incredible. Also picked up Tom Petty's MoJo on LP. MoJo sounds pretty good although the ugly compressor does rear its head. Not much in the way of dynamic range on most cuts, but still sounds pretty damn good even though (or because of) the LP was sourced from a digital master.

Sorry to hear about the Monk LP...as a guy who last played in LP 30 years ago (all digital here)...can you place the LP under a pile of books for several weeks? or apply heat and put it under a weight?
