Dear listeners,
I have attached a suggestion from the “niche” symphonic wind orchestra.
In contrast to other wind orchestras, symphonic wind orchestras have an expanded line-up (double reed instruments, bass instruments from some instrument families, timpani and percussion, occasionally piano, harp and double bass) and are in terms of tonality and size designed to match the size of the symphony orchestra of the Romantic era.
In their repertoire, symphonic wind orchestras place an emphasis on original compositions, i.e. on compositions of a symphonic character that have been specially composed for this form of instrumentation.
Such a (new) original composition is: „The Island of Light“ by José Alberto Pina Picazo.
On the first page of the score it says:
The symphonic poem 'La Isla de la Luz' (The Island of Light) illustrates the legends and places of the island of Menorca. In 'Cova d'en Xeroi' the listener can hear the legend of a Moor, nicknamed Xoroi. He is left behind after a pirate attack without being able to get back on board. In 'sobre las Tubes' (On the Clouds) the composer gives a bird's eye view of the island, a part with a great emotional content. The work ends with 'Los Gigantes' (the giants).
Well, programmatically very broad and vivid. Nevertheless (imho) Pina manages to create very great timbres and melodies in the 2nd movement. The third movement, on the other hand, is bursting with energy and drive. The sound from the CD playing during the actual performance adds an interesting new level.
A great recording in which the young composer conducts himself.

I love the fact that Nebuko is not only an extremely talented artist, but also an academic. I appreciate the fact that she decided to share her knowledge, experience and passion with the young and aspiring students.Nobuko Imai is one of the best current violists.
This Viola Buoquet 2 album is less well-known than the Vol 1.

Maurice Gendron is one of the most underrated cellists ever.
The classical music lovers in Japan have great taste and this is a Japan domestic sacd reissue of Maurice's Bach Cello Solos.
I have got the vintage full-silver CDs already but have zero resistance to sacd reissues.
