I held appreciable awareness of the connection between Cantus and John Atkinson for a number of years. While remaining quite unaware the expansive (especially for their format) Stereophile article on the backstory and recording process of this album until assembling a few words to accompany this well made and well packaged release.

Had set this and Schumann Piano Works (Yury Martynov) out in preparation of choosing one for this evening. The latter it is.

1/5 through the current century. Hard bringing to memory anything equal, though enough come close in specialist repertoire outside operatic works.
