How are the two brands Focal and Meze Audio compared? Does the Utopia Headphone need a DAC? What about the Empyrean, is it's sound quality bette than the Utopia?

Thanks.

Utopia has a bit of Beryllium coloration to its sound but not too bad. I owned and eventually sold the Utopia but I'm still a fan. I've never heard the Meze. Today, I would probably consider the HD800S Sennheiser to be a best bet for all around performance.

I'm not sure what you meant by "need a DAC". But everything sounds better from a dedicated DAC than, say, straight out of a computer. For a nice sounding all in one DAC with headphone outputs, I recommend considering either of these:

Do you mind telling us why you sold you Utopai?

Thanks.
It's overpriced for what it is, and it does have that Be coloration I noted. I bought mine very shortly after Focal had introduced it and was able to sell it for no loss while the hype surrounding it was still high. The HD800S is a better headphone.

I'm looking for a Open Back Headphone(with neutral sound). I've been looking for a proper one for quiet a while. Are there any good Open Back Headphones that you'd recommend?

Thanks.
