Classical music and audiophiles

So what is it with classical music and audiophiles? Until I ran into Steve, I thought I was the only one who appreciated non-classical music and high-end audio reproduction exclusively. Yes, I listen to a bit of classical music here and there but that is it. Ditto for Jazz.

Why are we a rare breed? Or inversely, what attracts people who love classical music to high-end audio?

Can we have a Dr. Phil moment and figure this out?

Indeed I have said many times that I am not a classical music lover but yet many of my demo disks involve classical

As a fellow mainly rock-and-popper, my guess would be the 3D soundstage that well-recorded classical records have gives audiophiles an extra thrill. That said, there are a few classical pieces of music that I just love!

It's really simple! Jazz and classical are clearly the best music genres.

Also, the (somewhat narrow) demographics of (a) jazz and classical listeners and (b) audiophiles probably overlap -- stereotypically they are older people with some money to spend.
