When using an AP why is it better to use 2.4 GHz instead of 5 GHz? If 5 has a shorter range does it not pollute less or is it more noisy or create more interference?
Thanks
when people say “2.4 GHz is better,” it’s really about controllability and low-noise, not the frequency itself being magically superior. In contrast, 5 GHz tends to be higher power, higher energy bursts, and more likely to inject noise into nearby analog circuits.
A further thought on this. I suspect that placing my server on its own VLAN likely reduced traffic even without adding the firewall rule that blocked all traffic. That could explain why I only perceived a subtle improvement from blocking all traffic.

I think the server is what you're trying to isolate, right? So that makes sense. What improvement did you hear when you put the server on its own VLAN?

The designer of WiFi X says in his website that “WIFi 5 was clearly the best way to go”. He believes WiFi for audio “should not radiate excessive power and it should be a narrow wifi channel which is far less overall channel power and much better at maintaining a clean solid connection.”

I thought I might have heard an improvement but opted not to confirm it with an A/B as I found that I had to restart my server to have it move to a different subnet. Too much of a hassle. Plus what I really wanted to evaluate was the benefits of complete isolation.
I watched a few videos today on creating VLANs with Unifi. They did make it easier to configure things and it’s definitely something I should pursue but more from the security perspective. My many IoT devices should be isolated from everything else. I will revisit the audio VLAN again once I upgrade to a current Cloud Gateway device.
