Are SOTA systems worth the effort?

Speaking of your reference to rare whisky, in addition to "matakana's" post just now, I recall walking thru JFK airport (10 years ago or so) and coming across a 30-year Macallan, one of my favorite whiskies of all time. I passed at $400..."very expensive, what if I break it carrying it back, I could get 5 Macallan 18's for that price," the list goes on...

Oh man! Ah well, hindsight is 20/20 blah blah... :D I bought a bottle of Macallan 25 for a dear friend and mentor recently and that has gotten awfully steep too. I'm not a whisky drinker at all but I had to admit when he offered me some of the 25 that it was better than 18...

Thanks for your kind words. :) My review-writing throughput hasn't quite ramped up to the level I'd like, so my backlog is still pretty big, but I should have some more things coming soon.

Wow...if you bought that recently, steep is indeed the word! Yes, I agree the 25th is better than the 18...but it is far, far more expensive in comparison to the 18 today than it was 10 years ago when pricing was closer (250 vs 85)...it has since far outpaced the 18 in price appreciation.

The 18 is an extremely solid performer and in my limited experience, very very reliable. A super solid whisky. Truthfully, both are tremendous whiskies.
