13 Types of Audiophiles

Many here apply to more than one type (me included of course, taking out #3) :)

Solution: BruceB is supposed to do a blind testing of my system in approximately a month; maybe my wife will be around and he can confirm.

zz.

(Doing the Happy Dance!)

most of the non-audio sites I subscribe to have big busted chicks as their avatar, then again they use the f-word a lot, are very blue collar and have a general disdain for know-it-alls/experts. the avatar I use here is the nerdiest one I have:)

Stereomojo is the king of big busted chicks!

I'm probably a composite of four or more at various times. Add for me "Addled Customizer Audiophile" (as opposed to "addled tweaker")

Of course, there are a few other categories not mentioned. "Battleship Audiophile" who wants magnificence and raw fire power. "Fashionista Audiophile" who needs to acquire every newest (preferably expensive) device, cartridge, cable and tweak etc.

Yeah, headphone babe is definitely a figment, that for every lonely obsession there is some babe hankering for the perpetrator, NOT! Hot chicks at car rallies make more sense.

Or hot chicks at a Ham Fest or Star Wars convention.

We have lots of #5s on our forum.

We're missing the category for audiophiles who want to squeeze the people who disagree with them, and all the data, into a little cliched box where they don't have to take seriously.

Perhaps we can put that into the category of audiophiles who have >12 people on ignore.

Tim-Are you describing yourself?

Okay, points have been made from both sides of this table. Let's try to keep it civil guys, stay on topic and not get personal in commentary.

It's a pretty simple dynamic, Tom. The day they stop throwing snowballs underhand, I'll stop slapping line drives at them. I never pitch. I just don't let them float by unmolested.

Tim

Let's just stay on topic and not let get things personal in nature. I don't think we can get any more simple than that.

50 year old high amperage drawing vacuum cleaners

Another type & I will give an example:
The type that searches for 50 year old high amperage drawing vacuum cleaners. You see, the great old copper strands in the power cords have been SO conditioned over the years that it will now make the BEST speaker cables.
This is providing the guy immediately marks the direction on the cords.

zz.

DIY Audiophile

That list missed one type:

The DIY audiophile. The one who figures that they can engineer a system with higher performance at a lower cost than what's available commercially. So everything from subwoofers, high-end speaker clones to extremely customized audio chains are designed, fabricated, tweaked and deployed with much sweat and pride.

I think we have a few of those 'round these parts.

And they still suck.

Tim

I don't seem to fit any of them.
