Then again, with the MS listen to a bass drum struck with a soft mallet.

Tim, At first I thought you were referring to the Micro Seiki until I realized you mean the Master Signature. Perhaps it has to do with the combination.

A well reproduced tympani to me sounds clean and hollow. When I read “tight and fast”, I think of a snare drum or tambourine.

There is some semantic confusion going on here between grounding and earth

i commend to you this excellent article
https://www.jensen-transformers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/generic-seminar.pdf

and the most important diagram in the article

note that correctly wired there should never be any current through to the earth rod

I'm pretty sure Rex knows the difference! FWIW the earth ground is often a water pipe since they are buried. What Rex was concerned about is when you add a second earthing point, if things go south you can have a dangerous situation. It can result in more noise too.

Yes, Master Sig. A large bass drum struck with a soft mallet should have a meaty whummpf'. Not fast, not much hollow, a sense of air being moved.

It wasn’t directed at Rex, but people talk about earth ground and the ground/neutral often in the same breath, though they are not there for the same reason

You did not enter this image. This is what I though I read the OP was installing. This is not the way to ground for a variety of reasons. I am going to leave this alone now. Its not my project.

After listening to DDK‘s Neumann cartridge for four days, I decided to install the Technics moving magnet that he gave me when I bought the system.

This vintage cartridge does not have the high-end extension or the resolution of my Colibris, but it has a very nice sense of nuance and weight. I am astonished at the quality of the sound for the low price on the used market. Some of these older cartridges from the heyday of the vinyl era just have a rightness about them. They let you relax and just listen to the music.

Agree. Rightness is a great way to describe it for sure

Apparently we cannot say this sort of thing anymore :

the new correct terminology is :-

Personally preferable version of rightness ;)

You can even add 3 letters only: personally preferable version of righteousness

Those 15" cone drivers ought to dig deeper. My memory of this recording is that it hits very hard. Do you get that sense of slam in your room? Incidentally, I hate this song as means of demonstrating bass (and in general), but that's neither here nor there.

Brian, I always respect your candor. It sounds most like my system when listening through my headphones. Next is the iMac computer speakers, last is the iPhone. It is pretty hard to asses bass extension, weight or slam from these tiny devices, but that is not the intention. Same with most rock videos. These videos are merely tools for specific aspects of the sound and for entertainment. The bass quality is far superior to my prior system on this and other music, and it is not just the wonderful Vitavox 15” paper driver, but also the TT and electronics. In room, this recording is quite something.

You realize the depth of bass for this speaker depends on the horn length and not the size of the woofer?

Here is video of something a bit different on my system: pop music. Not my typical fair, but my two daughters like this, and I've heard it performed by female a capella groups in schools. It's kind of fun. The bass at 2:40 is beyond what my former system could do.

Sound great Peter. Grand pap speakers playing my son's music. Wonder if great great grand pap speakers in Utah can play as good. :p

The big system in Utah as well as the JBL‘s can definitely do this. Despite the abilities of the gear in that big room, it is still a test bed for David’s ideas and he is always trying to push the envelope. As he told me and Tim, it’s an obsession. Extension and impact are fairly easy to achieve. It’s the quality and natural character that is the real challenge.

This is also my first video since my electrical delivery upgrades. As you discovered from your system, this can make quite a difference. It takes time for all the wires and panel buss and breakers to break in. Sound quality in my system is still improving from the recent changes.

Yes my HomeDepot electrical line is making some wonderful sound. Save us a whole lot of money Peter. I still dont have that Eaton isolation transformer because they dont sell it over here.
