rodny we should not say what others love or would buy is wrong , im sure your strugaling not go wadax lol. i get you and dont even go to your $$ hights . if it makes them happy im happy for them, and on that thought when are you happy and for how long lol . not meant as a dig truly being honest , i can spend as you and could not live with myself . its not the cost its the mental thought do i derserve it , would i truly care enough to own it and enjoy it . i told you many times the chase is the deal . but for some not me and only short term for you is there the wow . your setups sound very good and ill bet the H dac is above the past videos . its tough for us to stay happy , its why im really trying to stand still for a bit . last 2 trips to nyc no audio what a dumb ass i am at times . but since the show return im playing all day and night .

i think the point is...for the price paid...and i have been a silent observer - seems like there are still tweaks that needed to be done despite the high price tag. If we buy a top of the line marque branded car - it is not expected for us to spend more on it to mod or tweak - why is it so different in audio land with price no object items.....shouldnt the tweaks all be figured out if it is already ? price no object?

man that would make sense for most all except in audio lol . in audio a no price too high budget still has cost over runs ! but still one needs to be happy at what we buy . and for the ones who can even for a while im happy for them truly . my moment ends when the box arrives .

Yes Al for me there is a wow it might only last a very short time but it's there . I've been like this my whole life , I dont appreciate nothing . I should be very great full for what I have but honestly it means nothing to me . But out of all my hobbies audio does give me happiness . The sad part is I feel like your twin and that scares me

I get this part but mirrors don’t show to us what others being us do. You don’t scare me you show me reality and I learn from it. we are happy but I think it’s over shadowed by other emotions perhaps.
honesty we share in audio is good for all audio users If done in small doses lol.
enjoy both dacs.
if I may in a direct compare H to trp or Baltic
what stands out as a up scale change ?

I felt so content with my initial tube pairings for the Pacific (KR RK 242s + 274B), I have never rolled. But given the Horizon's impending arrival, I thought it might help to prepare per everyone's suggestions (roughly 15 on the NA queue). Anyway, it's a start and I know there are a few other recommendations I need to continue to research. Will gladly part with any that don't match my preferences to folks here at commensurate discount.

Didn't expect it, but I just want to admire these little gems. They are works of art. My wife is a bit concerned by my excitement and the new, old tiny and blackened 'light bulbs'.

Good luck finding anything to top the 242's in the Pacific, if they are working in your system! I'm number 53 in the queue for an Horizon, so I'm guessing Aug/Sep timeframe here. Nothing wrong with what I'm enjoying now on the Pacific, but I believe there is more beauty still to be had, based on what I heard at Axpona.

VERY curious about the Shuguang CV181z!. Could be a giant killer!

Day 6 of our Horizon adventure. Figured out we can bypass the pre-amp portion of our integrated amp (by using the home theater inputs) and use the Horizon volume controls. The sound is beyond magnificent, but it will take some back and forth to determine whether we ever use the pre-amp again.

tubes in the pac are system and personel likes . i have the 242 tubes and yes they give me the jump i wanted . but i also have tried tubes i stoped trying back in when i got it . i still dont care for 45 tubes no matter who made them . but 300b also are good now to me . the H DAC from hearing it at the show is just a very exiting sound that removed any hint of digital to me .

dont stop trying the preamp but do observe whats better , many times we tend to move in a direction and stop . while at axpona mike L made a commnet of going back to before even after he had felt its better . this made very good sence to better prove its a total move up and not a latteral alone . he may not own an H dac but his wisdom should be used by all .

also consider this in my pre amp i have the feature you have , it seems to max out the volume control . not bypass the preamp . also a gain stage adds drive and dynamics . my guess and im guessing your enjoying the gain . may i ask before this change where was dac vol and pre volume ? also does your preamp have gain sws for each input ? 2 of my preamps do and man especiaslly on a phono pre input it really dials things in . but it also was great tool on my dacs and tape too . also im not trying to make you crazy so im good of your happy and thats it lol .

The numbers are a bit confusing, (1) with the interconnects from the Horizon (and earlier the Pacific) are plugged into the DAC inputs on the integrated amp, we would listen with the amp volume in the 20% to a max of 25% on the amp volume dial. in this arrangement it was necessary to set the Horizon volume at 63, which I understand is the point where we were bypassing the Horizon volume control. (2) when we switch the interconnects into the Theater inputs, the amp jumps to nearly 75% on the dial, and seems to be locked at that level, but we set the Horizon in the low to mid 30’s. This is the setting I have found superior to bypassing the Horizon volume control at 63.

wow very puzzling numbers indeed . but sound wins all always . do you adjust volume from the player ? can you adjust the input sensitivity of the preamp ? and i am just being curious not doubting findings . the device chain is always full of potholes to test us and adjust . im using a krell fbp 700 cx amp for now . its only 100 ohms input imp , there are not a whole lot of preamps to drive it well . but plenty who say it was not the best of krell amps lol . model below and above all had norm input imp values 10k and up . yet searching the web yields little results most claiming its a typo and is 100k . its not lol even krell says its 100 alone .

Hey everyone I’m a long time follower, but this really my first real post on WBF. It was worth the wait. I’m sitting here in my listening room being seduced by my new Horizon! Only a handful of days of break in but already enthralling.

Right now my current tube compliment is: Pysvane blue globe input tubes, a set of KT170’s a Western Electric 422A. I have a Takatsuki 274B arriving tomorrow, and I’m quite interested in what I brings to the table. I won’t be able to try any other input tubes until my 6922 to 6SN7 adapters arrive, since I have a wide variety that I’ve rolled with my Decware SE84UFO25 SET amp.

So my DAC journey has been an interesting one. Starting with a Metric Halo LIO8, then a Phasure NOS1, a Holo Spring, a Chord Dave with first an M-Scaler and then a custom linear power supply, the latest was a Holo May Level 2 (I still have all of them) and now the Horizon.

I arrived here following the Horizon thread and then North American debut at Steve William’s home with his wonderful system. It was really Ron’s interview with Lukasz that convinced me. Lukasz passion, philosophy and engineering prowess convinced, even with never owning a Lampizator product. It really felt right to me that this was going to be what I’d been searching for in a DAC finally realized!

I was fortunate enough to confirm my belief a Axpona, when I was able to hear the Horizon in person. I’d be completely remiss if I didn’t say my confidence in the decision was really bolstered upon meeting the guys from Lampizator NA. Fred and Rob. Wow! what a super team to represent Lukasz products. I felt like I’d found a lost brother in Fred! Just super down to earth and well ok, it didn’t hurt that he was a former wrestler and showed me a picture of his son carrying on the tradition! It brought back a lot of fond memories of my dad carting me around the country to wrestling tournaments since I was in first grade, and being there with me through my collegiate career. I was also unaware that Fred also represented Taiko, so I pulled the trigger on an Extreme. I’m really looking forward to all the things they’ve got coming to the Extreme platform. My DIY copy of the Extreme with Nenon’s spec’d power supply and the Taiko DC to ATX converter does a darn good job but it’s time for the real thing and all the knowledge that Emile and his team bring to bear.

So back to the HorIzon. I might not be the most eloquent writer in describing the sound of music being played through the Horizon, but I’ll give you my take on what makes it so compelling to listen to and why it‘s a game changer in my system.

When I think of dynamic range, I think of what I can hear from the quietest sound to the loudest portion of song I’m listening too and reproducing that with no compression. But with the HorIzon, I’m hearing that with every performer within the song! I’ve never heard that kind of delineation in my music play back until now! And what that does is allows me to hear the artistry of each individual performer within the composition. I‘m not sure if any of you can relate to how I‘m describing it, but for me, it just sucks me in and commands my attention. I literally feel the interplay of the performers and the vibe of the performance!
It is just so compelling and enticing that I can’t focus on anything else. There is just so much more information being communicated through the Horizon in a natural analog way. The Horizon is so sweet and delicate but also has such a grip and weight on the music. It is quite simply the best music reproduction I’ve heard, with the caveat that my experience with really high grade analog is limited. I will add though, that at Axpona I thought it bested both analog tape and vInyl in the room.

Well I’m going to wrap it up, and I know there’s plenty of break in that will take place over the next month and then of course the unlimited tube rolling permutations, but I’m one lifelong audiophile who’s finally found his endgame source!
