The most transparent speakers in the world

I agree with you - the Crystal Arabesques's are now the second more transparent speakers in the world:

They look pretty .. I wonder how they sound ... The specifications on the website do not inspire much confidence in their sonic performance.. especially this one :
Decibel= 98 dB ??/ What is this supposed to mean? Maximum SPL? Sensitivity?

Looks like a speaker for the B&O crowd.

I have no idea. You have forgotten more about glass than I ever knew.

We audiophiles, will likely find the sound from these speakers : hard, bright, brittle, sterile, thin , etc ... It won't matter what type of glass used ...

I wish I could say I like the looks of these speakers, but I can't. I still think the CLS is one of their best looking speakers.

Wait till you see the configuration I am ordering tomorrow :)

Frantz, I am not so sure.

I am listening as I type to the delicious Mozart Adagio in C, KV356/617A for glass harmonica played by Bruno Hoffmann. It sounds wonderful in my electrostatic speakers, but surely it will sound much better played with crystal speakers (the glass harmonica is a member of the crystallophone intruments) ... :)

The glass harmonica short pieces are the last tracks of a recording by Beaux Arts Trios of the Mozart Quintets and Trios - you can imagine my surprise the first time I played it when suddenly I heard the glass sound - happily it was a CD, otherwise I would have immediately thought that the stylus had broken!

Interesting ..never knew they made glass harmonicas ... Will get the CD ...

I like the Harman Kardon Soundsticks (I think that Amir is a dealer - so apologies for the plug).

Here's a review that compared the Soundsticks to the Genesis 1.1's (I'm the manufacturer - so apologies for the plug again.)

The reviewer slightly preferred the Genesis over the Soundstick (if I keep this up, I'm gonna get banned from the forum :) )

I would say Laminated glass with 2 different thicknesses on each side! Like most studio glass.

There is an earlier thread about them, somewhere on WBF...

Where are plasma speakers when you need them?

There was an article in an engineering magazine a few years ago about generating a local soundfield with many small transducers and applying phase array concepts. That is, essentially no visible speakers, the sound "emerges" (coalesces) at the listening point.

Interesting stuff - Don

Most definitely.
I swear I have also read this again recently, either in a magazine, article, or possibly here?
Going to bug me now until I remember :)

Cheers
