Recommendations for hi-fi speakers in the $100-$400 range

Kanto YU4 if you can stretch to $480. I've enjoyed mine for several years, running from a Mac Mini and Pre Box S2 Digital DAC. Kanto also have models at other price points

Thanks, those look nice. Have you tried the Audioengine A5+ for comparison per chance? Reading online the Audioengines are $80 cheaper but still seem to be 10 watts louder and have a wider frequency range than the Kanto YUI4. Is there any draw for the Kanto YUI4 over the the Audioengines?

Yes. I did. I had a pair of A5+ and two pair of A2+. All three pair died after 2-4 years, so I went looking elsewhere and found Kanto. I also had two of the Audioengine S8 subwoofers. One of those died after a few years, but the other is still going strong

Yikes, I'll have to read more about A5+ typical lifespan. Will look more into Kanto.
Thanks!

Those Kanyo look like great speakers. And they have a matching sub.
