LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Hello, I'm new to this forum but for a long time in this noble hobby .As a happy owner of Lampizator Golden Atlantic TRP for more than 3 years (thank to @Golum), I want tot express my observation on above mentioned subject. In my humble opinion, for my system at least, best combination of tubes for Lampi TRP (tried at leat 30 combination) are as follows:

1. U18/20 rectifier (any brand), EL 12 spec Telefunken output

2. U 52 Brimar rectifier, F2a11 Siemens output

3. USAF 596 rectifier, Tesla 4654 (very close to this is Tesla EL51) output

I just recently acquired EL 34 Winged plates single O getter par Ulm, and same but double O getter by Telefunken, so I will test in next few weeks both options with different rectifiers. Different options showed In att.

Cheers Boris
OK, after few months I have to revise my list of best rectifier/ output combos for my Golden Atlantic TRP2 :

1. Cv378 Mullard rectifier, 367a Western Electrics output

2. RGN1064 Telefunken mesh plate, EL 12 spec Telefunken output

And sharing the third place ( can't decide)

3. CV378 Mullard rectifier, F2a11 Siemens output

3. USAF 596 rectifier, Phillips Miniwatt 4654 metal base

Out of small triodes very close to third place is U18/20 rectifier with Teonex 6j5g big bottle output
Pictures will follow

I think the quest is over. But once I get adapters I will try dual triodes, since I have lot of 6SN7gta and gtb ( my main amp is 6sn7gtb driving 2a3 driving 845)

Of all the many different tubes I have I would have to say that the older 6SN7’s are probably my overall favorite. I really like the older Philips red tubes and enjoy vintage globe triodes/pentodes as well but when I need to reset and get back to a sound that I know and love it’s always the 6SN7 that gets me there.

For some reason my previous post is missing. Since I'm still waiting for 6SN7 adapters, I have tried many small single triodes mainly 6c5,6L5. Among them there were metal base Sylvania and also National Electrics. But real champions were big bottle Fivre 6c5 mash and United Electronics 6L5G

In the meantime I have tested few dozen of 6sn7gt tubes on Atlantic. They sound very nice, better than small triodes I tried , but definitely not in the same ligue with l WE367a, El12 spec and Philips EL51 (4654). Best of them were Sylvania 6sn7gtb and GE 6sn7gt (att)

Deyans a great guy , I had him make me a few adapters and I am more than happy

Any photos of Devan’s’ adapters? How do they compare with those from Takacs, which are widely used by WBFers?

Thanks. They look nice. One thing Takacs’ adapters include is a provision for grounding (hole). I hadn’t heard of his adapters when I had a TRP — I think he and his partner first started building them during that period — but that facility with my GG 2/3 has been invaluable. They allowed having a good quality ground cable made that connects the three tubes to the unit’s grounding screw. Helps a lot with noise. Although ultimately I went further and added Russ Andrews RF Routers with his ground cables for all the components, which really made for quiet. Takacs’ don’t come cheap, though, about $350 last year.

Nice! In my experience 6SN7's seem to vary across production years. I have many quads of Sylvania, RCA, GE, Tung Sol etc.. and have found Raytheon to be one of the best in my stash. I've been running a quad of CBS for the last couple of weeks and enjoy them as well!
I can't really say I have a definite favorite but then again I'm not focusing on a best of the best ordering of things.
I do agree with you on the Philips though- that's a great sounding tube! I was just shopping a quad of Mullard EL51's but wasn't sure about their sound compared to the Philips. If you have any thoughts on that please share your experience.
I ended up picking up another quad of EL5's to fill the place of a couple that have become too troublesome to use.

I've got a couple pairs of Deyen adaptors. Always been impressed with the consistent high quality and very reasonable price.

Cheers,

Man- you hung on to all of those adapters even after blowing out your tube collection?

I definitely could use those 6F8G's- Deyan is making me a quad that should be here any time now (keeping fingers crossed!).

Hah, that big bunch of tubes I sold to a guy a year or so ago was just EL34 and 6SN7 from my earlier tube amp/preamp days.

I still have all of the single triode tubes, a handful of twin triodes and rectifiers I purchased for the TRP etc, including the adaptors. And small signal tubes, etc. Bit of a smattering of bits & bobs.

Mostly in disarray...

Plus my Voltinator™ to run the low voltage filaments. If I buy another TRP I'm all set!

Cheers,
Robert

I have tried Raytheon 6sn7gt, CBS also which are probably Sylvania, few versions of GE, United Electronics, Fivre, Sicte, Ken Rad metal base, they are all good but soundwise Sylvania 6sl7grb is for me the best.

Considering EL51, I never had Mullard, only Phillips Miniwatt EL51 huge black glass and Philips metal base 4654 slim tube. I prefer them much more than praised Tesla EL51 (tried few versions blue glass and normal ones) or Tungrsam pv600 or Ad1. The only EL series tube that excels this Phillips EL51 for me is Telefunken El12 spec.
