LampizatOr Golden Atlantic + TRP

Hello Pollux!
Sounds like you’ve been getting the most from your TRP- awesome! Are you using a TRP with volume control straight to your amp or do you run a separate preamp?

I would still recommend at some point that you purchase 6SN7 -> 6J5 parallel adapters and give some twin triodes an audition in your system.
Now I run separate amp,but used to run Lampi directly to 845 amp.
I have few 6sn7gt from Sylvania, RCA and Heintz Kaufman. Didn't know that it will work with double triods without mod. I was planning to try is 367a tetrodes.

Also waiting for some EI 6ca7 which is big bottle el34 with much better sonics.

For twin/dual triodes you will need an adapter that parallels both sides into a single which basically creates the same pin configuration as the 6J5. There is a difference in the sound of these. While I like both (6J5/6SN7) and continually rotate between them I love the sound of the 6SN7.

Which reds do you prefer? I only have 4654 and they are better then Tesla el51
I don’t own the 4654- too difficult to find so far and I’ve always been wary of price vs age/use of used tubes. I have quads of the others though (EL5, EL3, EL3N, EL6) and would have to say I like the EL5 the best overall. The EL3’s and EL6 are similar to me while the EL5 produces a fuller, richer sound.

Thank you , I can get EL-6 metal base from Philips, just wondering is it worth it since I have 4654, EL50, EL51.

Do you know by any chance know which adapter to use for Telefunken RGN 1064 rectifier, since its 4v heater.

I’ve never purchased one but I believe there are a many here on the forum that have had them made. Proper resistance is necessary where that is concerned. Try a search in this thread or the Lampizator/Horizon tube roller threads.

After experimenting with dozens of 6j5 here are two that I find best
Ken-Rad Jan-CKR 6j5GT metal base from late 40s
Teonex(Valvo) big bottle 6j5G

Nice! I’d be interested in knowing where you found the ST bottle 6J5’s. Any luck on sourcing the adapters?

And for me one of the best combination after El12 spez, 4654 Phillips Miniwatt metal base with U18/20

Which adapter have you been using for the U18/20? Isn’t it a 4V tube?

It is 4v tube. I use some U18 to 5u4g adapter. Pictures attached. Think the same adapter can be used for Rgn 1064, az1....

Please don’t do that. According to the following data, U18, U18/20 (which you seem to have), and AZ1 all need resistors of different values.
If(U18)= 3.75 a
If(U18/20) = 2.8 a
If(AZ1) = 1.1 a
If(RGN1064) = 1 a
What this says about the adapter you are using is up to you to decide.

Thank you, I will find adequate adapter

Good catch Ron! I could see the potential for really starving a couple of those tubes if the adapter was configured for U18. It would be nice if there was an adapter that allowed for the resistor to be changed based upon need. Of course then everyone would have to get into resistor rolling as well.

Did anyone tried WE 367a tube. It is supposed to be best tetrode ever? Also I would like to try Cv243 ie 4045a tetrode.
I’ve never looked into those and after a quick search it seems they are pretty rare. It might be interesting but I’m not sure if I’d have adapters made just for that one tube type. Have you tried out the 350b? Definitely expensive but no adapter required.

I don’t believe you can use the 4045a, looking at its data sheet it appears to be a directly heated tetrode. You’re going to need an indirectly heated tube with a cathode.

350b is almost identical with 367a (same static characteristics), and as you said no need for adapters. I will try it since is much cheaper than 367a, thanks. You are right, cv243 is not for applicable for TRP.
