YouTuber Says DACs Don't Sound Different

I can offer a situation where many* DACs can sound the same: it;s where differences are not discernible. If you take a low resolution system, where losses begin at the source and continue, unabated, by the time you get to the actual reproduction, the actual resolution can be low enough to mask differences between DACs. In which case, it make sense to purchase the cheapest evaluation board and stick it in the cheapest case -- or use your phone as a DAC.

Exactly right. This is likely why they really don’t hear a difference. The rest of the system is so noisy, swapping the DAC for a better one will not sound any better.

Believe it or not but I have never had a good experience. My experiences are very limited but they were not good. I'm a believer in tape however given that all the best music comes off of them.

I DO NOT have golden ears yet even budget DACs sound different from one another. Whether it be intentional differentiation between manufacturers or something else entirely, it doesn't matter why now does it. They just do.

I have no objection to sincere objectivists in general. I think they can provide a good service and counterbalance.

However, the ASR guys are like a hyena pack waiting for some naif to wander in and say something 'sounds' a certain way. Then, the naifs undergo ritual howling dismemberment, being passed from hyena to hyena until the blood lust is satiated.

ASR is a joke.

Even though it does contain some useful information here and there.
