Bill Evans (no the other Bill Evans) Who Am I

Don't know how I missed this one. Saw him when he toured with Mahavishnu John McLaughlin in the mid 1980's. Always enjoyed his soprano playing. A sometimes overlooked player IMHO.

A 2024 release, the album features an impressive assemblage of musicians including Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglass, Max Mutzke, Victor Wooten, Till Bronner, Nils Landgren, Jon Medeski & Wolfgang Haffner to name a few. Drummer Keith Carlock is impressive throughout.

A smokin' band playing terrific music. Wowser
From the liner notes;
On THE BIG ROOM, drummer JOE FARNSWORTH leads an intergenerational sextet into a place of transcendent creativity and imagination. The album features a stellar cast of player/composers blending modern masters and rising stars: trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, saxophonist Sarah Hanahan, vibraphonist Joel Ross, pianist Emmet Cohen, and bassist Yasushi Nakamura.

I think many people are familiar with Emmet Cohen, but this is my first listen to the alto sax player, Sarah Hanahan. Check out her playing on Continuance. She crushes it. The whole recording is wonderful. Hi-rez 24-bit/96kHz versions available on Qobuz and Bandcamp.

Smokin' is right! Jeremy Pelt is no slacker, too. The jazz club Smoke and their Smoke Sessions Records are releasing a series of the best swinging jazz CDs/records. Vincent Herring, Eric Alexander, Joe Farnsworth, Jeremy Pelt, Mike LeDonne, Bobby Watson. What's not to like?!

I'm a big Oscar Peterson fan. Pun intended. Big? Big Oscar Peterson? Never mind. :p

There are a large number of live recordings of him, my favorite being "The Trio", recorded at London House jazz club in Chicago in July 1961.

In memoriam- For a long time I had difficulty listening to any live Keith Jarrett because of his grunts and moans. Last week I downloded one of the many standards CDs that Jarrett, DeJohnette and Peacock released. The music is magical. And their fingers/hands--speed of light.
