Videos of Acoustically-Coupled Audio Recordings

Love this old machine, never sell this sonic frontiers dac such a musical beast.:)
My new favorite metronome dac , these ak chips have a special sound love it.

Organ Olivier messiaen CD Meitner Dac , closed speakers ( they can go a bit deeper with the basspipes mounted )
(I ll make another vid with the ML 360S dac and the baspipes mounted )
Complete organ works ( Med 1 )

I have an aversion to most CD's I'm afraid, good capture tho...

Sounds good! Perhaps you can do one without the Mutec for comparison?

no, i need the mutec to connect the pc to the dac. if i have a good cd transport like wadia 7 or mephisto from a friend here i will make a video without mutec 3+ usb. i only play from pc.

P.S
when you need a not digital sounding dac buy a used sfd 1 mkII dac, not the sfd 2 dac its sounds brighter use 6n23 russian or 7308 amperex tubes. Then you 're close to analog playpack

IMHO/IME iphone 6s recordings sound great. Later 11, 12 etc sound muffled. I think it’s because of improved water resistance.

Interesting

So much for the claim that phone recordings are an easy standardized way to compare.

Tang also once posted on his thread a comparison of an android and an iPhone video of the same music on the same system (his). It sounded like two different systems.

that’s still standardised, as people are mostly using Samsung and iPhone.

I have a Mutec and reclocking helps immensely

If different models record better or worse in the same brand then how exactly is that standardized?
I have done on iPhone 7, 8+ and now 11. The differences that exist do not change the perceived understanding of the system at all. I know as I have recorded the same systems with different models. With Samsung, there is a lack of emotion as compared to the iPhone. But the attributes of the system are captured.

one guy says 11 is better than the 14. It depends if you listen for some sort of overall feel or analyse the video on attributes

Vocal timbre is nicely warm, but it sounds a bit muffled and closed-in, not transparent. I'd like to hear warmth and an open sound.

Could be just the phone recording, but then, the speaking voice by the commenter at 2:17 in the right channel sounds more open than the vocals from the speakers.

During my listening session last night, I took some videos of the same system that I used to submit the “Truly” videos for the comparison with Michael Fremer’s system video. This time I recorded a couple of the same songs that were used on Wadax server/dac videos that were posted on the Wadax thread. I thought that it would be fun to do this for comparison for some of the videos that PaterA and AndromedaAudio posted on that thread:

The music sounded great, but the Fanfare recording could benefit from more power as my Type 46 based SET amp only puts out 1.25 Watts per channel; so I moved to the room next door…….
The Beautiful life track is interesting because the Lampizator (which model?) is quite dramatic and colorful and the ValveDac (is this a TotalDAC?) is more muted and "matter of fact". Perhaps the Lampizator is having bigger dynamic swings as well, although the track is not very dynamic on the whole.

I remembered reading Peter’s words on the Wadax thread: “hearing your video of this same song will be fascinating give the different systems and likely costs.” So I configured my Fertin 20EX fieldcoil based system to make a point: No HQPLAYER, no DSD, for server/streamer I used one of my Bluesound Node 2i’s, for DAC I used my dCS ELGAR-Plus ring Dac (coax SPDIF PCM), and increased the power to 3.5 glorious watts from Radu Tarta’s Sakuma style “Turbo 45” SET amp (EML 45 drives EML 45B configuration) to drive the Fertin 20EX silver-voicecoil fieldcoil drivers, from 200Hz up, mounted on custom Open Baffles and supplemented by a pair of Definitive Technology SC-8000 subwoofers from 200Hz down to 12Hz (you will need to turn these up a little to match levels with the other videos as these contain more bass I had to record them with lower gain):

For completeness, I also recorded a video of “Truly” with my Fertin fieldcoil based system for comparison with Michael Fremer’s system video and others:

I first heard Fertins at Black Forest Audio in Germany that were augmented with huge Onken boxes with 15 inch woofers and driven by an all Kondon system. That was an eye opener on the potential of high sensitivity and SET amps! I find this system a bit less open than the previous one but it has a warm natural ease that is nice. I see you are using a Transcendent Sound 300B preamp. I have looked at this a number of times and would value your opinion on it.

Carlos, I prefer the feildcoil videos, but am getting tired of "Truly". The Fanfair comparison is quite telling in the bass definition and horn character. There is good clarity and the sound is pretty balanced. It does not look like you have any vinyl gear. Did you abandon it for digital only?
Agree with the bass; however, i find the other system has much more color and tonal differentiation in the horns and percussion. You can more easily hear the contribution from the different instruments in the orchestra that is slightly homogenized in the Fertin system.
