Videos of Acoustically-Coupled Audio Recordings

Ok, thanks Al. I can understand that as a possibility, but I don't hear it when listening to the two videos. And my crude measurements do not support it.

I don't know what your measurements mean, but it's pretty simple.

1) Can you agree that in the quiet passage at the beginning video 1 sounds considerably louder than video 2?

2) Can you agree that during the loud climax around 3 minutes the two videos are pretty similar in loudness?

(There is an about 10 second shift between the videos, so you have to account for that in the comparison.)

If you say yes to both 1 and 2, there is your answer about dynamic compression.

HI Al, the crude measurements mean that the loudness level is about the same which is what my ears tell me too.

1) The quiet passage does seem very slightly louder in video 1 to me, but that is because it sounds more open, less recessed, less restricted.

2) I agree that the loud climax around 3 minutes sounds about the same volume but video 1 is much more articulate with greater clarity and energy. much better low frequency nuance and resolution.

I do not hear video 1 as being compressed. In fact I hear it as more open and energetic. Anyway, I think this discussion has run its course and I look forward to more of such videos.
