Ok, thanks Al. I can understand that as a possibility, but I don't hear it when listening to the two videos. And my crude measurements do not support it.
HI Al, the crude measurements mean that the loudness level is about the same which is what my ears tell me too.
1) The quiet passage does seem very slightly louder in video 1 to me, but that is because it sounds more open, less recessed, less restricted.
2) I agree that the loud climax around 3 minutes sounds about the same volume but video 1 is much more articulate with greater clarity and energy. much better low frequency nuance and resolution.
I do not hear video 1 as being compressed. In fact I hear it as more open and energetic. Anyway, I think this discussion has run its course and I look forward to more of such videos.
The not so "crude measurements" (BTW, it is a nice name for something it is not a true measurement) show significant differences. I have shown such measurements methods before in WBF several times, I can't repeat it all every time you ask for it, particularly as you have never shown respect or desire for true measurements.
I just used the Christian Zeitnitz soundscard scope to display the accumulated spectral levels of the two videos sound output.
I have described technically why common handheld iPhone videos are not reliable for such compares - you did not show any interest on it or wanted to discuss it.
Enough to fool the iPhone dynamic level system and also to fool the listener - any serious listening comparison in such conditions would be considered invalid. Again I just posted because the digital system was explicitly named in a previous post - fortunately it is now buried in the posts.
Actually this digital system is the best digital I have yet heard in my room so far. There are recordings that I prefer the digital version and vice versa. It was meant as a fun comparison only, nothing more. Yes in this recording I do prefer the vinyl in person, but there are many others that I do prefer the digital.
