I think it would be a benefit on many levels to have not only a thumbs up icon, but also a thumbs down.

It is a quick way to show you disagree with a post without having to type out some response.
It gives a tally to how the general forum is reacting to a post.
Its a little more feedback on members opinions.
It may temper some hot headed posters if they see constant negative response to their post. Hopefully leading to them considering the next post more carefully. YEA RIGHT. Narcisstic A hole egos may feed on the disdain for their comments. Hopefully not.

I would like to see one added. Maybe others do???? Maybe not??

You got my vote.....

You want the Colosseum?

How about no social credit score? Iirc FWB started that way and it used to be less contentious.

Be careful what you ask for. A knee jerk reaction forum is less thoughtful.
Agree, get rid of the feature altogether like it was for the first several years. It brings no added value.

Indeed! The thumbs down may also inspire abject negativity. At least the thumbs up is positive...

I agree. Thumbs down is an expression of negativity that currently does not exist. Thumbs up is a positive expression.

That there are ratings for posts is asking members to express emotion about other members -- it's inherently ad hominem. Imo there is a difference between disagreeing with a post and disliking a member. Treitz is always saying speak to the message not the messenger.

I’d definitely like to see the hysterically giggling sarcastic emoji thrown in the dustbin.

“Use your words” as my wife would tell our kids.

i would rather eliminate 'likes' than have thumbs down. it is very easy to say we disagree politely mostly with some sort of rational which connects dots. but thumbs down can become a sort of piling on and impersonal. being negative carries much more responsibility and should require a separate post and the ability to respond to.

it would then result in people asking why someone gave them a thumbs down. a true rat hole to go down.

we can ignore excessive likes. it costs nothing and means not that much. but excessive thumbs down is polarizing and bad. then we give a prize for the most thumbs down. it would change the forum vibe.

I agree with @Mike Lavigne on this.

When you like a post, it can be interpreted as agreeing with the poster and/or feeling the same way about the topic. But when you dislike a post, there can be a thousand reasons, and it’s impossible to know why just from a thumbs-down icon. You need to explain it with a post. If you trust yourself and think that you’re right on disliking then show some courage and post. This way you may point out very important aspects of a subject that is not obvious by other members. IMHO dislike button will only encourage cowardliness.

Same thoughts here. Better to havr an example of an alternative or a counter-argument or some explanation for dislike or disagreement. I'd prefer to learn why someone disagrees with my post rather than the sometimes anonymous thumbs down -- a sign of disrespect.

I'm good.......

I don't think any of them are really necessary.
