Sound Quality of new roon versions (builds)

If one uses a end point the sound from each build has less impact
Roon core to hq is still a good ch on 1 pc or two
squeeze alone is in some ways above any combo
hq alone is also in some ways better then combos
this is purly based on sound
the board , memory and setup make huge sound changes too.

I agree with this. The many reports of terrible Roon sound quality might well be because Roon is being played "straight through" and not through HQPlayer or Squeezelite. Of course, if one is trying to make a point, it's nice to have a straw man.

Another issue -- it seems to me that searching via file structure is available in Roon. Just go to "Albums", "Artists", or "Composers" and use "Focus". Maybe this is not exactly what those complaining are looking for, but it works really well for me.

I appreciate that we all want to know if SQ varies among the Roon versions, but frankly this is not an easy thing to discern. Audio memory is unfortunately not very reliable after 7-8 seconds. That's why A/B comparisons are useful but as we all know, long term listening may also afford a good opportunity for comparisons as well. Both have merit. Still, comparing anything generally requires the ability to switch between 2 variables to make an assessment, and the one thing you cannot do is switch to an older version of Roon for comparison purposes. That makes rendering a judgement on sequential Roon versions particularly difficult. Best perhaps to just enjoy the music and stop wondering or perseverating over something you can't do anything about anyway (although this has never stopped an audiophile from dreaming). Roon is an incredible tool for music listening and exploration. If it's SQ is surpassed by XDMS as expected, even if it offers a bit less of the flexibility and accessibility of Roon, we'll all be perfectly happy to have the Roon update issues behind us.

You shouldn't mention XDMS here. XDMS is only for Taiko and it is nothing in the world of software players. Are you sure XDMS will be better than Lumin app, Aurender app, Dcs app or Innous app?

If you want to compare them, let's compare universal software players.

Correct Steve. I posted in the wrong thread. On the other hand, I thought your intentional slight at Taiko ("is nothing in the world of software players") was unnecessary.

Sorry if I make you uncomfortable. I say that because I think XDMS only does matter to Taiko users, not all. The apps of Aurender, Dcs, Innous... are the same like that. They only do matter to their users.

We should be back to this thread.

I have many many Roon revisions to compare
I try to download new
listen to a new core with simple ref tracks.
there is in fact changes they have also allowed us to remove in partial some new features
this seems to me proof as well as there acknowledging issues or less then ideal sound
if it were not for its great GUI
a I would not use it as it varies
it causes issues in memory usage
if I engage most all of its features it hurts things badly
vol control
headroom management
just to name a few
if one uses two boards they create even more issues for the user
recently they forced a new software upgrade
if you install it a few things happen
one you can’t use hq player
and when you update hq player
many older boards are paper weights
hq no longer allows use of them
one can blame Roon or hq player
my view is both cause this
most all players we use vary on updates but Roon seems to vary more in my view

I understand that some people like the meta-data capability of Roon, and the way Roon suggests other music using some algorithm, but if Roon is fussy and often degrades sound quality and is so complicated that it requires a “build,” why don’t you just uninstall it and bypass it completely?

I have multi boot servers so I use what I wish at the moment
most times I’m working doing paperwork so it’s not critical listening
but the sound is always being observed
because of Roon newer update I had to use new mainboards on both PCs
the sound is not better from Roon but hq player has improved greatly

ive used jriver alone
hq player alone
squeeze box alone and a few others too.
anyone who says digital is easy over analog spins cd alone lol.
weather I admit it or not I do like the hunt for best sound complex or not

I prefer to use ROON for its meta data and Squeeze as the player. That combination sounds best to me and avoids much of the angst you refer to.

I no longer worry about the SQ of new ROON releases.

Funny I asked the same type question a while back. Seems to me if Roon is so bad stop using it. Use whatever tool you like and just enjoy it.

I'm enjoying Build 1105.

I will put in some time with it. My default is to use Squeeze as my Player with ROON as the media server.

Anyone update to Build 1125? I am on Build 1021 and am afraid to update without feedback from others on the board.

Thanks!

Build 1125 is only for Roon Bridge and it is minor adjustment in preparation for Roon 2.0 release.

How about 1105 then? I am still on 1021.

Thanks very much.

In my opinion, build 1105 is stable until now.
