I like they way Ron chooses his equipment. He buys it, brings it into his listening room, has it set up by professionals and thereafter decides if he wants to keep it. Everyone should be so diligent !
So Gryphon, Clarisys, and the amps were set up by professionals, and professionals recommended the amp speaker match? They recommended the 47 ft RCA via the woofer?

Ron has made some placement choices that necessitate long cables, going through the woofer tower when not using them seems like a snafu. He did have the cartridge specialist help with placement, as have other industrie people like that Rune guy from Denmark.

On cartridge yes, the first Graham plus Zyx and Reed 5T with Grado set up by industry pros did not work, the second with Reed 5T and Opus did. Audioquattr already has that combo set up by himself. We don’t have evidence video or otherwise to confirm it is better sounding than or as good as many of the Opus’ set up by non industry people.
The cartridge specialist helped with the placement of the Gryphon right which Ron gave up on
He check with and relied on industry pro Flemming's comment that it will not sonically affect anything - he said something to this effect in an earlier post.

My simple point is this - get any industry pro, read any get better sound book you like - some things don't match, some things cannot be fixed, and to assess systems and components you need to change things in a controlled fashion (if you like an entire gryphon system you cannot get it in parts and try to fix things without going back to the whole that you heard, same for Clarisys or any other speaker) and you need good music and recordings to evaluate as some of it allows for a broader generalization beyond a specific isolated record.

In the end he goes with what he hears himself, guided buy his philosophical tube friendly beliefs. If he likes the sound, it is the right choice for him. Plenty of people have commented positively on his system when heard in person, videos are useless anyway.

Maybe you read positives there. Some clearly commented what was initially verified by the vids. In your haste to post against vids you are forgetting that if he liked the sound he would have kept the combo - nice to see you picking up micro's emoticons

Yes, one of the biggest problems might be trying to set up a system that plays questionable original digital recordings to perfection. If there are brightness's or sibilants on a recording, trying to make them go away by changing cables or amps is not the solution.

Sometimes you really nail it, Ked!! Very well explained ! And still this is basic hifi math and very logical to understand. Some though, seem to make things more complicated than it really is.

Don't forget his adherence to one of the four audiophile goals he defined, his preference for four big towers producing plenty of woofage, and a low center of gravity tonal balance. Ron has very specific preferences and has stated them clearly. He likes to gather advice and then make his choices. He says he is very pleased with the current sound of his system. Ron commented positively on my old system once but later admitted that he was just being polite.

I own a pair of BG planar magnetic drivers like those used in the Pendragon but shorter. I warned him about the cavity resonance that can lead to brightness with this driver. There are circuits to tame it but not eliminate the problem.

Nothing worng with this, this to him existed on the Gryphpon with gryphon amp system he auditioned, I mentioned it many years ago to him and to others the low gravity tonal balance as the advantage of Apogees over stats like MLs, and that bottom up sound is also what is great about dual woofer FLHs. The Bionors you like, for example, can be made to have a bottom up sound depending on associated equipment. These kind of preferences are fine. It's just ground up linearly through midbass, rather than top down.
