New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

I saw Billy Joel earlier this month in the Texas Rangers Ball Park. Joel was terrific. The venue was not. Yet he persisted...and it was a very good show. I also saw Paul Simon last year. Another really good show. The old folks I've seen (including Steely Dan a year ago and Bruce Cockburn a few times in the last couple of years) all seem to be giving it their all. And they actually know what it takes to put on a good show. Cockburn is a highly recommended live show if you enjoy great lyrics, solid vocal performance (though is voice is not what t used to be) and impressive guitar chops--without silly showing off.

Russell Westbrook passes Magic Johnson for second all-time in triple-doubles

I think this is an amazing feat

Russell Westbrook made history in his second game with the Houston Rockets, who beat the New Orleans Pelicans 126-123 on Saturday night.

Westbrook registered his 139th career triple-double and passed Magic Johnson for second-most in NBA history.

The superstar guard poured in 28 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. It's his first triple-double with the Rockets.

In his walk-off interview, Westbrook said he doesn't take these milestones for granted and considers the achievement "a blessing."

All-time triple-double list

1. Oscar Robertson, 181
2. Russell Westbrook, 139
3. Magic Johnson, 138
4. Jason Kidd, 107
5. LeBron James, 81

Clipps in Phoenix and a slim lead 64-62

Could the Suns beat them?

Booker. I'm impressed with the guy. An unstoppable scorer.

Heat beat the Bucks on the road, impressive win.

I’m stunned.

And the Suns didn't have their top draft center Ayton who was suspended for 25 days for substance abuse. But many guys stepped up, Baynes (ex-Celtic), Kaminsky (ex Hornet) , Oubre (ex Wizard), and Saric (ex Sixer). And with machine gun Booker around to drop in 30 points, the Suns were giving the Clippers a big run for their money and actually won. They just rung the bell in the Western Conference - we're here.

Yes, the Suns did beat the Clippers last night and they definitely deserved to win the game. Didn't like the final score but we did have fun.

Not sure what happened but the Clippers couldn't hit a shot and the Suns made so many three pointers that their three point shot tracker on the scoreboard ran out of space. Clippers couldn't buy a basket for long stretches of the game. Kawhi went to the locker room between the 1st and 2nd quarter and sat out a big chunk of the 4th quarter so something may have been amiss with him.

To be honest, I almost didn't mind that the Clippers lost. The Suns fans have suffered with bad teams of late and the people sitting around us were so happy with the Suns win that it was good to see - especially after living through a few really bad seasons with the Clippers over the years. The two guys sitting in front of us were just overwhelmed with joy so we shook their hands and congratulated them on the big win. I knew how they felt.

Another interesting team in the West now is Dallas. Doncic and Porzingis are fast becoming a great duo.

Lakers tip off in 50 minutes. Could they get a 2 game win streak

Lakers vs Charlotte in a tightly fought first 3 quarters until the King came alive and hit double digits in a game once again. His record was in threat of being ended

AD looks fabulous. He can do it all and easily makes long threes

Howard looked good with a double double

Kyrie Irving breaks Harden's record for most points with new team
From NBA.com Staff

This is a remarkable feat but is Kyrie becoming a one man show just like Harden is

Kyrie Irving is wearing his third uniform in four seasons. If his first three games in Brooklyn are any indication, the Nets may believe they have the best edition of the All-NBA point guard.

Through the first three games of the 2019-20 season, Irving has scored 113 total points. That mark bests James Harden's feat of 106 points in his first three games with Houston in 2012, setting a new record for most points with a new team in that same span. Irving also joins Vince Carter and Stephon Marbury as the only Nets to score 25 points or better in each of the first three games to start a season.

Irving's 37.7 points per game rank second behind only Atlanta's Trae Young in the early season. The former Cleveland Cavalier and Boston Celtic is shooting 41.2 percent on over 11 attempts per game from 3-point range. With fellow offseason Nets signee Kevin Durant out with a torn Achilles, Irving finds himself as the No. 1 option on a Brooklyn team hoping to take the next step after finishing sixth in the East last season.

Perhaps just as impressive is Irving's efficiency despite the heavy load he already shoulders. The six-time All-Star has committed just six turnovers in 104 total minutes while shooting 27-for-29 from the free throw line.

Irving started the Nets chapter of his career with a bang, dropping 50 points in the season opener against Minnesota. The Nets, however, have found themselves on the losing end of two overtime games already, including Sunday's 134-133 setback to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Kyrie will be Kyrie... He is one PG who can score at will one any given day. But, I say the highlights of the Grizzlies game, he was blocked by a rookie - Ja Morant, who was impressive in the game, and his moves dropped my jaw. Morant could be the next super point guard after being newly drafted.

BTW, I am wondering how the contract of KD with the Nets is structured, specifically for this season where prior to KD's switching to Brooklyn, the Nets already knew he had an ACL, so it's not like Hayward who was injured on game number 1. Are the Nets paying KD full or almost full annual salary as per his contract? I mean will the insurance company still pay for KD's contract as they can always argue that the insurance is not binding since the injury was there before the season and not suffered during play.

Like I said in the draft night pages, my eye is on Ja Morant. Well with Zion out for a few weeks and Ja breaking out with his first 30 point game, watch some mo' :D

We're going to see a lot of youngsters break out this season. Eyes definitely on the Pels, Suns, Pacers, Hawks, Heat. They aren't getting far but these teams just came off the roll over 'em list and four of them should be threatening the 8th spots. I think the Pacers should land between 5th and 7th but exit after the first round.

And the NBA's new crowd favorite - the Celtics' Tacko Fall - 7'6" reed thin monster soft dunker (without jumping), has played his first NBA game and made 2 straight dunks. He is quite mobile for his height, so the idea is to make him move towards the rim, lob it way up, and nobody will ever get the ball first before him. His plays could revive the term 'height is might'. The guy even has a 'per-minute' stats - for a 3 minute game exposure. LOL

Clippers played the Hornets tonight and ended up winning 111-96.

Final score was OK but Charlotte isn't very good and they were giving it to the Clippers pretty good for the first 3 quarters. After their performance in Phoenix on Saturday I was starting to get a little concerned that the Clippers were getting lackadaisical.

It is interesting to watch Kawai as he isn't really a flashy player. I was thinking he was just OK tonight but he ended up with 30 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals. That's pretty darn good.

I remember when Pop drafted him, he was saying they didn't think Kawhi could shoot. That was quite a wrong diagnosis. :D

I hate to read about this as the fires in SoCal are once again raging. Rich or poor, young or old, people, livestock, pets and entire lifelong belongings and memories are wiped out in an instant in these wild fires

AS we flew back to Orange County from New Jersey a few days ago as we were approaching Orange County we gazed north and the sky was all black in the LA Area.

LeBron James among those evacuated because of L.A.-area fires
From NBA Twitter and media reports

Basketball star LeBron James is among evacuees as a fire that erupted early Monday in Southern California grows to more than 70 acres.

The Los Angeles Lakers player tweeted just before 4 a.m. that he was trying to find rooms for his family after having to “emergency evacuate” his house, calling the fires “no joke.” He later tweeted that he found accommodation, said he was praying for those affected and advised people to get to safety.

I [praying hands emoji] for all the families in the area that could be affected by these [fire emojis] now!" James tweeted. "Pretty please get to safety ASAP.

"My best wishes as well to the first responders right now doing what they do best!"

The Lakers played on Sunday night, defeating the Charlotte Hornets 120-101 at Staples Center. James finished with 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting as well as six rebounds and 12 assists in 35 minutes.

As of 4:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said the fire was moving in a westward direction. The Mandeville Canyon and Mountain Gate communities remains under a mandatory evacuation order that verges into Brentwood, and the evacuation warning area has been expanded westward to include parts of Topanga State Park and the Pacific Palisades.

Evacuation centers are open in Westwood and Sherman Oaks.

Earlier on Monday morning, The Los Angeles Fire Department is ordering mandatory evacuations after a fire erupted on a hillside near the Getty Center museum.

The department posted an alert Monday advising everyone to leave the Mountain Gate and Mandeville Canyon communities between Mandeville Canyon Road and Interstate 405 north of Sunset Blvd.

Although the Getty Center is nearby, officials say the facility was built with thick walls and doors to compartmentalize any flames.

Mount Saint Mary’s University tweeted that its Chalon campus near the Getty has been evacuated under orders from the LAFD. Students were taken to its Doheny campus.

The blaze comes as the Tick Fire near Santa Clarita was 70% contained as of Sunday night. Up north, crews are grappling with a wildfire in Sonoma County that officials say covers 85 square miles (220 square kilometers
