Has anyone heard the Devialet D-Premier Integrated Amp/DAC

Put 5.7.3 in my DP earlier today, no sonic difference.

Thanks. Then 5.7.3 is different from the 5.7.2beta I mention above. In my system I found 5.7.1 a bit bright and 5.7.2b a little darker and very organic. 5.7.3 is more like 5.7.1 then. Will be exiting to hear what 6.0 does with the sound.

You know, when I first put 5.7.3 I felt the same, a little darker and organic. Then I thought no, it's the same as 5.7.1
Today, listening for the last few hours I think you might be right. Width to width seems more filled in and bit denser. Layering and depth seem to have diminished however.
I never liked the firmware after the balance, bass and treble controls were put in, whatever version started with that.
I need to listen more

hi I'm new to this forum and recently acquired a Devialet D-Premier so i've been following this thread with keen interest.

Anyway I wish to concur with ogs's comments and I too found 5.7.3 a bit bright and harsh sounding compared to 5.7.2b. Somehow there was more glare in the highs and it was too bright compared to 5.7.2b which had a much smoother sound to it. I'm pairing the Devialet with Focal Electra 1028BEs by the way.

I wonder why they are always modulate the sound a little bit different, as you guys mentioned. There was an improvement of sound with the first updates as a lot of users mentioned. As long as the sound gets ´better´ no one might be upset. Now reading about brighter and harsher does not sound good to me at all. Anyhow, they should not try to change it with any new update or give the user the opportunity to decide which sound he likes more. Cannot understand that - especially when they say
This is why Devialet amplifiers are part of the reference toolkit of nearly every major speaker-manufacturer. The Devialet being absolutely neutral in terms of sound reproduction, what you get to hear is how the speaker REALLY sounds (...)

Obviously not?! I don´t want the amp to tune the sound that way.

Do you mean 5.7.1? Is this maybe a typo? I have not listened to 5.7.3. My comment concerns the 5.7.1 and 5.7.2beta. And I would not describe the difference anywhere near harsh.

I'm a new comer to this forum and have been following this thread with interest, i'm looking to trade in my Naim NDX/Supernait/Hi Cap for the Devialet depending on how well a dealer demo goes.

The thing i'm most concerned about is the usability, so far you can only use with iTunes which is not great and I noticed you can stream internet radio using iTunes from a mac but, but what about streaming music directly from an ipad? Can you stream internet radio from an ipad with out resorting to use iTunes with a mac/pc?

I'm guessing Sonos is the only alternative for streaming internet radio?

Not any more!

I held off answering this because I knew there was a change coming at Devialet, but wasn't sure of the change itself. Since Munich, that's all public domain.

Basically, whatever's feeding your NDX can be used to feed the Ethernet port of the Devialet 110, 170 or 240. You might need to use PlugPlayer or a similar app to control your media server (and it might be wise to wait for the first reviews to see just how the integration of the Ethernet port panned out - I suspect it will be OK).

I've used my D-Premier direct from the S/PDIF output of my Naim UnitiServe to great effect.

Yes you are right, my apologies. I meant to say that that I found 5.7.3 to be a bit bright like 5.7.1.

I originally auditioned a DP at home that had 5.7.2b installed and I really liked the smooth sound. After I got my set, I realised that it was pre-loaded with 5.7.1 and found the sound to be bright and not as smooth as I had initially auditioned. I then went on to upgrade the firmware to 5.7.3 thinking that the sound I enjoyed would return. Unfortunately I then played my favourite tracks and still found it too bright and fatiguing. That's when I rang my dealer up to confirm if the demo set had 5.7.2b installed. I'm in the process of asking Devialet to send me a copy of the 5.7.2b firmware so that I can 'downgrade' and confirm my findings.

To further clarify, I probably found it harsh due to the beryllium tweeter on my Focals, which can be pretty harsh if not matched properly. The brighter sound in 5.7.1 and 5.7.3 didn't work well with it IMO.

I am not sure if I understand right what you wonna say. Devialet says that a running iTunes is and will still be needed for the Devialet.
Or are you talking about internet radio stuff only?!

It doesn't do Devialet any favours to have promised software 6.0 in the week following Munich, not delivering on that, and then having users commenting on the seemingly different sound attributes of what are really interim updates 5.7.1, 5.7.2b and 5.7.3. In my view they should not issue these interim updates - despite user pressure - and just go for what they deem are material and fully tested and audited updates signified by an N.N nomenclature*.

It is also unwise, in my opinion, for them to accede to "fitting" a release with a user's loudspeaker characteristic (as sought by skywalker) as that suggests that Devialet does not have a single target (neutrality or transparency or whatever) for every release. I can understand a user's desire to get a good fit but surely this should be done as a custom DSP application, otherwise it will open a can of worms in my view.

* The D-Premier has been out now for three years and I guess I have had mine for two years. I'm not sure how many releases there have been and it would be interesting to see a list with dates and characteristics. I guess there must have been around 20, maybe more.

With three new Devialet units now rather than the original one D-Premier, and therefore sets of opinions likely to be voiced in relation to three units rather than one, Devialet will need to avoid user opinion falling into the "release 6.1 is an improvement for the 110 but the opposite for the 170" type of comment - by ensuring that releases make material and consistent improvements across all three (or four) products.

DO NOT UPDATE your iPhone app unless you plan to update your DP to 6.0
The new iPhone app doesn't work with 5.7.x!
What if you don't like 6.0 and want to go back?

Nice screw up Devialet.........

Don't like 6.0? it's not a seasoning we are talking about...

I just updated though and I have to say that the AIR 2.0 software for PC is extremely sketchy so far, it doesn't work very well at all.

yes i haven't been able to play via iTunes on PC after I updated to AIR 2.0. It detects and locks onto the DP but no music playing :(
