That must be a complete waste of time and likely to degrade the speaker's response. The mic in your phone will have hugely non-linear measurements - likely far worse than the response at the listening position you are trying to flatten!

Agreed. I think though it does show you if there are serious imbalances in the bass, which practically every room has in some measure. I find that the RoomPerfect system in my Lyngdorf does a far better job, as it takes many measurements across the room and integrates them. Still, it's a nice add on in a $799 gadget that sets a new bar for what you can achieve with such a limited budget. The phono stage is the miracle in this product. It's better than a lot of standalone phono stages I've heard, but of course, it cannot compare to the really expensive tubed phono stages like my ARC Ref Phono 3SE.

Does the unit offer the choice of CD Play and CD Rip? A very rare feature if it does. I bought a NAD M50.2 largely as I could use it to play or to rip a CD to its twin 2TB hard drives.

Great question. Originally I thought it would, because my other Eversolo streamers (like the DMP-A6 and DMP-A8) allow you to attach a CD or Blu Ray drive and rip from it. The PLAY does not seem to have that feature. Perhaps I am not using it properly. It has a rather poor documentation, for example there is no mention of what the gain levels are on the MM and MC phono stages. I find the MC phono stage gain to be too low for low output moving coils. The MM phono stage works great for cartridges with a healthy output, like my Stanton 881S.

Great that this amp allows you to enjoy your records so much, I wonder if it could fit in an entry level high-end system?

Certainly it can. System matching is critical. It cannot drive speakers with crazy impedance loads, like Wilson that go below 2 ohms. But any sane speaker design should work as long as it is reasonably efficient.

Running my Eversolo PLAY with the awesome Supex 900 cartridge, the Koetsu before there was a Koetsu. Found this gem for a measly $400. So, if you want to hear what a $10,000 Koetsu sounds like, just find the Supex 900. It’s hard to find, but it’s worth its weight in gold. A low output moving coil, so it’s challenging with the Eversolo PLAY MC stage. But it’s noiseless and you can crank up the volume on the amplifier end. It’s a great combo
