* Did you watch a film last night (on Blu or DVD), and what was it? *

---Thank you Phil for visiting this thread and for posting a comment. :cool:

* I feel almost abnormal sometimes because I'm a film luver and I post what I watched.
...Seems that I am more the exception than the rule.

** I told a friend not long ago that collecting films over all these years and in the latest mediums is sort of money wasting (I spent/spend a lot), but if any day I feel to rewatch one I like, it's there, and in its best light (hi res audio and hi def video).

But it doesn't rule my life, see!

We all have our personal life's priorities; and loving each other should be our common one first. :b

---...From France, Paris. :b ...The city of lights, the poets, the artists, painters, sculptors, philosopher's stones, actors, directors, musicians, singers (Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, ...), ....

---My Mum loves Charles Aznavour, Serge Reggiani, Nana Mouskouri, Serge Gainsbourg, Manitas de Plata, Georges Moustaki, Serge Mondor (that's her brother), ...

* She had a turntable and was playing only albums back in 1961 and up.
{But they had a turntable too at her mother's place, back in the fifties; her own Mom was a singer and a pianist.}
Now she's got a Bose r.a.d.i.o./CD player and she's very happy with it. :b

Few years later I bought my own first turntable, and my own albums, and for many years.
Many French and Canadian French artists (Harmonium, Robert Charlebois, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Raoul Duguay, Offenbach, Claude Dubois, and a zillion more). But I was also into Classical, and Bach was (and still is) one of my favorite composers.
...And Rock music, and Blues.

In the early seventies I was exploring Jazz, at school, from live bands.

And very early on I was also into movies; black and white, Sergio Leone's westerns, 'The Guns of Navarone' with Anthony Quinn, Robert Blake ('In Cold Blood'), Marlon Brando, Federico Fellini, Rod Steiger, 'Deliverance' with Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight, ....

I was also a film projectionist in the early seventies. And I took Cinema History at high school.
I did some acting too (Theater). ...And I even made a film! ...Back in 1971 I believe (8 or 16 mm).

my pleasure, bob. and i am amazed at your incredible passion for movies. i too am a movie fanatic since my high school days and i watched at least 1 movie a week in theatres in the city then till college. then, betamax, vhs, laserdiscs, dvds and now blue ray came in. there were movies in the 70s which i couldn't forget and at one point i had a lifetime movie pass for a theatre whose owner was a friend of my dad. great to visit this thread.

---Great post Phil. I am certain that the majority of us we are movie buffs.
Almost everyone here remembers at least VHS tapes. ...I do, and I was big on Widescreen.
One VHS player of mine was $1,500 and some of my High Grade S-VHS blank tapes were $20+ a pop! Now a Blu-ray player can be had for ony $39, and blank Blu-ray discs are very cheap. ...And the picture & sound are soooo much better! ...Same with TVs, and telephones, and laptops, and everything technically cool and jazzy. :b
I had (someone else now has it) a fairly large collection of movies on VHS. ...Only the best ones.

Phil, nice to love anything on this Earth, but much nicer to be able to share. :b

- Music is sweet to our ears, and it strikes some emotional chords;
a full range can be obtain, and our imagination is free.

- Movies are a visual treat, and they encompass the full spectrum of emotions;
in combination with beautiful musical soundtracks, for the mind, heart, and soul.

Describe all your material gear; what synergy they play with each other and all that jazz;
but don't forget the main essence, the poignant emotions you get from listening to the music and watching the moving pictures.

It's important to live in the year 2012 right now, I think.

bob,

i recall even before i went into high end audio, i had already a betamax hifi, the first of its kind by sony, and i had a teac dolby surround sound decoder and had 2 front and 2 rear speakers and even my mom went into my room when i rented some hifi tapes and said: 'WOW! you brought the theatre into our home.' but somehow i didn't go real high end on video and i have a modest 5.1 ht in my bedroom to watch and then go to bed. :D that's the most convenient way. :) and last night, we watched 'the dictator' with sacha baron cohen. funny but with some r-rated scenes and jokes. :D

---That is very cool Phil; memory lane, betamax, dolby surround decoder, four speakers, your first home theater, your mom wowed, ... :cool:

And you watched 'The Dictator'. ...Not yet for me, but eventually. :b

I don't post any movie watching for the last few days because I'm on heavy drugs, for my teeth, and for some more ...
I try every night to watch a flick but I passed out on my couch; just too tired, stoned, and totally drained.
Physically I am low, my moral is not bad though; got some work ahead of me to get in better shape.
...Hope I can see my dentist Monday; but I doubt it. It's going to be real tough ....
Emergency, possible 911 ....

Hang in there!
I saw the movie "Once" last night. You'd like it, as it is basically about music.

-----You just mentioned 'Once' (about music...), thanx!

Me I recommend 'Once Were Warriors'; a New Zealand flick and directed by Lee Tamahori (1994).
Don't miss that one! Everyone!

I watched Perfume over the weekend based on cjfrbw's write up back in July. I enjoyed the movie because it was something completely different from what I expected. The ending sure threw me for a loop. :b

---I have a copy of that "film" made by that Egyptian (about 45 minutes long);
from which violence erupted all over the Middle East and people were killed including an American ambassador!

Now they just arrested that director ... who has a price tag on his head by the Pakistan people.

I did not see it yet, but I've heard about it (it is very very very bad)! ...I'll watch it very soon.

Politics, provocation, terrorism, violence, insults, religions, 'coup d'etat', calculated propaganda, September eleven, and the bad stuff of what some men are made of on this planet of ALL ours!

______________

P.S. Matt, 'Perfume' is a cool flick.
