** I told a friend not long ago that collecting films over all these years and in the latest mediums is sort of money wasting (I spent/spend a lot), but if any day I feel to rewatch one I like, it's there, and in its best light (hi res audio and hi def video).
But it doesn't rule my life, see!

Few years later I bought my own first turntable, and my own albums, and for many years.
Many French and Canadian French artists (Harmonium, Robert Charlebois, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Raoul Duguay, Offenbach, Claude Dubois, and a zillion more). But I was also into Classical, and Bach was (and still is) one of my favorite composers.
...And Rock music, and Blues.
In the early seventies I was exploring Jazz, at school, from live bands.
And very early on I was also into movies; black and white, Sergio Leone's westerns, 'The Guns of Navarone' with Anthony Quinn, Robert Blake ('In Cold Blood'), Marlon Brando, Federico Fellini, Rod Steiger, 'Deliverance' with Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight, ....
I was also a film projectionist in the early seventies. And I took Cinema History at high school.
I did some acting too (Theater). ...And I even made a film! ...Back in 1971 I believe (8 or 16 mm).

my pleasure, bob. and i am amazed at your incredible passion for movies. i too am a movie fanatic since my high school days and i watched at least 1 movie a week in theatres in the city then till college. then, betamax, vhs, laserdiscs, dvds and now blue ray came in. there were movies in the 70s which i couldn't forget and at one point i had a lifetime movie pass for a theatre whose owner was a friend of my dad. great to visit this thread.

One VHS player of mine was $1,500 and some of my High Grade S-VHS blank tapes were $20+ a pop! Now a Blu-ray player can be had for ony $39, and blank Blu-ray discs are very cheap. ...And the picture & sound are soooo much better! ...Same with TVs, and telephones, and laptops, and everything technically cool and jazzy. :b
I had (someone else now has it) a fairly large collection of movies on VHS. ...Only the best ones.
Phil, nice to love anything on this Earth, but much nicer to be able to share. :b
- Music is sweet to our ears, and it strikes some emotional chords;
a full range can be obtain, and our imagination is free.
- Movies are a visual treat, and they encompass the full spectrum of emotions;
in combination with beautiful musical soundtracks, for the mind, heart, and soul.

i recall even before i went into high end audio, i had already a betamax hifi, the first of its kind by sony, and i had a teac dolby surround sound decoder and had 2 front and 2 rear speakers and even my mom went into my room when i rented some hifi tapes and said: 'WOW! you brought the theatre into our home.' but somehow i didn't go real high end on video and i have a modest 5.1 ht in my bedroom to watch and then go to bed. that's the most convenient way. and last night, we watched 'the dictator' with sacha baron cohen. funny but with some r-rated scenes and jokes.

Physically I am low, my moral is not bad though; got some work ahead of me to get in better shape.
...Hope I can see my dentist Monday; but I doubt it. It's going to be real tough ....
