Those Boulder 3050's are insane in a positive way :D

Very nice indeed, those are some speakers I would truly enjoy to hear. :D

List? over $200K

that's why the owner of Boulder flies over...when someone drop 6 figures on 1 piece of equipment (particularly an amp), there is a good chance you'll want to say thank you in person...and focus on 'repeat business' from that buyer. the cost of a ticket is well worth it in the context of $200K.

I don't understand the wall behind the speakers .. There is a picture of the speakers on it .. Screen? Printed Canvas? Photoshop? What is it?

The speakers are German Physiks Emperor.

Like the Gaudi, the four DDD drivers are mounted on an arm that can be moved backward and forwards.
This allows the phase of the DDD drivers relative to the bass system to be easily adjusted. This particular pair of Emperors is fitted with carbon fibre coned DDD drivers and finished in carbon fibre.

Anyone heard these? How do they compare to: big Wilsons, Magicos, MBLs, horns, Soundlabs?

Hello, Lee. I was thinking more in terms of him making sure that the incoming power was clean and up to snuff in order to properly power them, placement and making sure that the amplifiers performed the way they should. Possibly assisting the customer with suggestions or placement/isolation tweaks known to them in order to achieve the best possible sound from the amplifiers.

You were probably close to 100% correct, though. I was just curious, is all. Thanks.

I have heard the 2050 monos with the Focal Grande Utopia EM at RMAF 2009. The sound to my ears was ok but nothing special. Considering the price of this system I was disappointed. Price clearly isn't everything. The other system I heard was at Sounding's in Denver the same year during the show. At Sounding's they were using the 2060 stereo amp to drive Vienna Acoustics Flagship Die Musik speakers. This system had an all Bolder front end. Same problem here. It sounded a little slow and congested. After awhile they substituted the 2060 for a Jeff Rowland 302 stereo amp. The rest of the system stayed the same. Now all the reservations I had with the sound disappeared. The sound was faster and more open. Everyone else in the room seemed to agree. Now maybe the 2060 are not a good match for the Vienna's or I just don't get the sound of the Boulder amps. The rest of the Boulder gear sounded very good.

Now I realize these are show and dealer conditions but that is what I percieved.

I have heard the 2060 and was very impresssed...not my favorite, but extremely impressive. I believe that they require a 30-amp outlet...perhaps that is why they sounded congested/constrained? I have heard of bigger amps tripping breakers at shows.

That is quite possible. It did not trip the breaker while I was there. I'm not sure how long the 2060 had been there or if it was broken in yet. I remember that someone brought in a bigger power cord for it just before I left.

I am not in the market for one but I would like to hear them a couple more times before I pass judgement.

Jack,

Not in our lifetime. ;) But who needs 1500 watts Class A per Monoblock? I wouldn't want to see my electric bill. Here is a case for having Solar Power or wind power.

Rich

1500 watts per channel just doesn't go as far as it used to! :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Or could it be that power and how men look at breasts are one and the same? Too much is just enough :)

Looking great, they are one of my candidates for my second system.

I believe what went thru my mind the last time i heard big Boulder amps was 'like making love to a beautiful woman while she was reading the paper'. it's all there but something somewhere is missing. not that there is not plenty to enjoy. not the stuff of a long term relationship. a weekend fling absolutely.

The Boulder is by far the best constructed amp ive owned although its not a 3050 , perfection all over , it sounds as it looks
Boulder factory tour

http://www.avguide.com/blog/pictorial-visit-boulder-amplifiers-factory

Here it said anodized panels , somewhere else i read powdercoated , it looks more like powdercoating to me , but i could be wrong
As far as aluminium being lost producing the heat sinks , this gets collected/sold and goes straight in the melting oven as all other metals which are close to 100 % recycled these days , so its a green machine after all :D

I am starting to like it more and more actually , real quality grows on you

i was very impressed by the 2060 i heard. I think careful system matching is important, but i was very very impressed. And yes, build quality is beastly-good. I forget...which amp do you use again?
