Mike, why do you think sealed LPs are a "major turn-off"?
because it infers mostly reissues, or more modern pressings. how likely are you to find sealed pre-70' or pre-75' pressings? it happens, but rare. and if you have thousands of 50's and 60's sealed pressings it's not going to be offered in this type of way.

so i'm skeptical of finding many records i might want beyond what i have already.

but like i said i could be dead wrong.

nope. not that i could afford it anyway.

i'm only through around 150 of the 3000 pressing collection i bought last November. i've got years to go of listening and cleaning. as my tt upgrades are now complete i am listening to more vinyl, and i'm happy with things as they are.

If the WBF member purchasing these chose to personally manage their removal and insertion back into storage.

We'd gain a near like for like replacement for Audiophile Bill.

A bunch of people should pay towards a stake in the collection and the records can be split up in the form of a draft.

The whole point of buying a big collection blind is to pay cheap per LP in the hope you get a very small percentage of big guns.

the collection is considered collectible only if you have more insight into the titles or at least the history of the owner, if he knew how to go about an LP collection. Like Mike said, with most sealed probably not

Yet, there remains a lot of nice classical recordings in the 70's and 80's. Yes some are better than others.

Take two recently discussed here: the Natalia Guttman Schinittke released in 1978 and the Ida Haendel Britton/Walton VC in 1983. I found the latter still sealed. Consider conductors and when they were active: Bernstein, Abbado, von Karajan, Giulini, Bohm, Kubelik, Ormandy, Mravinsky.

How do you clean your records?

I'm trying to imagine the scale of this.

If we had an old fashion stereo store of 25 feet wide by 75 feet long with bins, aisles, rows, wall displays and so forth along with a cash register area, would this collection be able to fit into it?

as far as actual value pre 70 is much more desirable. but i likely play as many mid and early 70's (and late 60's) classical pressings as anything else. it's where the music i like most is in my collection.

still slumming it with my Klaudio. it's working well and so easy. once retired (in a few months) i might get more serious about it. my focus has been on my digital, and then my tt upgrades, done with those now. the collection is big enough to motivate me to get a better process.

massive difference in value of records. For example You can have great conductors and performances with low value to the records if a large number of them were pressed at poor quality and easily available.

Seller is being recalcitrant about the contents? Won't even crack open one box and lay out a spread of albums for a photo?
