Videos of Acoustically-Coupled Audio Recordings

Here are some recordings - "Truly" sorry...

I just took some samples of the song, as I was getting tired of listening to the whole thing. I think the differences in recording quality are pretty obvious. I did not make an effort to match the sound level (kept the same level on my amp), so you may need to adjust the volume. They were all taken from my listening position. Different placements may be more optimal for different types of microphones...

Unrelated - a recording I also took this morning of Oscar Peterson's "Corcovado" from the well known "We Get Requests" album (with the Tascam recorder and Superlux mics):

Here is the original flac file (CD Rip - I forget the exact release there are 38 CD releases referenced on Discogs...):

Here is the link to the Qobuz version: https://open.qobuz.com/track/26332262
The Qobuz version is not as good as my CD Rip, IMO, but that's not because it is streaming from Qobuz - I believe they are just different releases/masterings.

Listening to the file now on my computer with a good DAC and Etymotyc ER4SR headphones, the recording is obviously not as good as the original (no suprise here). The microphone placement is probably not optimal either. What interests me most is how the original file played through my headphones compares to the same file played through my speakers, and even though the experience is different, I can see how my system can be improved upon - but it is also difficult to know which part (amplifier, speaker, room and speaker placement, etc...) contributes to what - more about this in a few weeks!
Ok, so which setup sounded the most like what you heard live in the room? I thought the phone with external mics was good and the Tascam with Uni mic or external mics all sounded pretty good. The phone video was also better I thought than the phone with the field recorder app. Can you do a video with the external mics?

To my ears, and listening with headphones, the Tascam + Superlux sounded closer to what I hear, and generally more pleasant, but that does not mean that the recording is "faithful" - it is still pretty far from the live sound. That does not mean either that you cannot learn something from the general "sound" of the system on inferior recordings. I wish that people who made recordings and published them on YouTube would systematically let us know what equipment they are using.

The Tascam with the Uni mike sounds pretty good as well. Concerning the phone with external mic, it was a first attempt, and I am sure I can get better sound. I'll be going to a concert next week and plan on recording some of it. I will be curious to hear the results!

I'll try a video with the SP-15 at some point this week.

I listened again to Fermer's recording with the same SP15 and it sounds good, better than the one I made with the same mic! Everything else is different (equipment, room, seating position...). I am going to assume that a vinyl version of that album sounds probably similar to a good digital playback, all else being equal (as this is a new release)...

His system certainly gives a good balanced sound, with good transparency, but that is what you would expect from a half a million dollar system :) I don't know what else we can conclude from his video.

Organ Olivier messiaen CD Meitner Dac , closed speakers ( they can go a bit deeper with the basspipes mounted )
(I ll make another vid with the ML 360S dac and the baspipes mounted )
Complete organ works ( Med 1 )

What equipment did you use to record this ?
Perhaps give a link to the track on a streaming service if you want others to test it ?

@hopkins I don't know what else we can conclude from his video.

Thats its not real system test

I did not say it was! Are you saying we need to record organ music to make it a real system test ? If so, why?

You have the full bass freq spectrum in this recording
A lot of speakers vibrate/ distort so much on this material they almost start walking to the exit by themselves.
Any small 2 way speaker can do 80 - 100 hz and upwards.
The 20 hz to 80 - 100 hz region is whats gonna cost you in high end audio

You gotta have good subwoofers. I have two JL Audio Fathom v112v2. Not cheap, but more than worth it.

Not cheap, and not so obvious to fit in a living room...

Vis a vis bass, keep in mind that phone microphones are going to be severely rolled-off below 80hz as well. Granted, if one system produces more deep bass than another you could probably still hear a difference, but the recording in both cases will probably not be representative of what the system actually does.

Please, can you give the exact reference to the track you recorded.
Thank you

This is my organ reference track for evaluating set-ups:
