You are just jealous you don't understand statistics. Not everybody is as smart and handsome as the three of us.

Amir, it's the emotional emptiness your left with after listening to digital that's making you all over eat!
You all need to go on the turntable diet... You will then all feel satisfied after listening to music and not seek solace in over indulgence.

I know you don't believe that a "needle drop" can sound as good as playing the LP directly. That's why I said "widely held" rather than "universally accepted". Maybe I could start a poll...

It would be interesting to compare the mic feed to the digital and vinyl finished products.
A friend of mine who worked in the recording industry in the early eighties told me that when Cd was first introduced it was the first time he was able to hear at home what he heard inthe studio.

At least from the forum it looks like I am your only friend, Keith, and I never said anything like that.

Ps: are you quoting Frank?

I know of two needle drop challenges on this forum that never materialized. It was because the believer in the theory dropped out.
I am finally honoring my threat to learn statistics. I am on lesson 8. Bear with me.

Frank Dernie ( F1eng) worked for Garrard in the early part of his career I believe, this chap worked for EMI, at their Hayes plant.

Here is another hyperbole alert:

Review: Critical Mass Systems Maxxum Amplifier Stand

Why does it count as hyperbole? Because the reviewer, Robert Harley, did not include any comparisons with other amp stands. He only says: "Specifically, moving the power amplifiers from the floor to the Maxxum stands caused the system to disappear more completely." And then he goes on about the other virtues.

This is not a valid comparison. Most amplifiers benefit from being lifted off the floor. How does the Critical Mass Systems stand compare to a stand costing 5 or 10 x less? And by the way, which kind of floor are we talking about?

Of course, Critical Mass Systems have been reported positively on many times, also by our own Steve Williams, but this does not excuse such sloppy comparisons (floor vs. stand) for a review.

Especially when the reviewer's conclusion is: "And in a full-blown reference-class system, the Critical Mass Systems amplifier stands are an absolute necessity."

Wow. Really? So any other high-priced stand options don't possibly qualify either?

I like Robert personally, and I personally think CMS stands are fantastic and I would not hesitate to buy them, but I agree with you that all this review tells us is that CMS amp stands are better than no amp stands.

What else can we expect from an equipment report about an amp stand?

Harley never does comparisons anymore - why I dumped TAS 5 years ago. It's all disguised marketing.

I owned an Artesania/Stillpoints/HRS and moved my stuff over to the CMS. First I moved my CD player - soundstage blah, depth blah, bass blah blah. Then I tried different levels. I found that stillpoints worked best on the lowest level while CMS on the top level. Etc

Al, I agree with you. And what does "...disappear more completely." even mean? It either disappears, or it does not. Kind of like being pregnant. Perhaps he means it lowers the noise floor or some other distortion.

I would think that one could actually write a lot in an amplifier stand review. Does the stand effect different frequencies differently? Does it isolate the component making it immune from floor borne vibrations, or does it couple the component to the floor and act as a conduit helping to drain energy away from the sensitive circuits? Is it equally effective with tube and SS amps? From what little is posted, it sounds like a lazy effort. I'll click on the link to read more.

Valin wrote a long review of the CMS rack a while ago. I wonder why he did not do this review.
