Objectivist or Subjectivist? Give Me a Break

Hatred, contempt, derision. Looks like you guys are having a ball! When do the lynchings start?

This thread has had over 1000 posts... has anyone read all of them, what's the summary, and how many subthreads are there; finally, is analog better than digital :D do we need a kate upton video posted to shut it down?

Yes...analog is better than digital. End of thread...Can you close it now Steve? LOL!

Like fanatics of practically every religion, audiophiles can't take a joke. Nope, no sense of humor whatsover.

The same can be said of any opposing extreme.

I don't think there's anyone actively involved in this thread that I even dislike.

The summary is: no one has changed their position or opinions based on posts in this thread ;)

Shocking; how can this be.

Thanks, Rbbert, this is a very positive outcome! Considering the horrible, nasty and almost criminal characteristics of audiophiles and people who live on their credulity that were exposed by the anti-audiophile team :), WBF audiophiles - the majority of our readers - should be happy for having no defectors in their lines! (I hope readers can see the humor in this statement! If not, please send a private message, I can add more smiles ;))

Other than (perhaps) Ethan, I don't think any non- or anti-audiophiles posted or participated in this topic. For that matter I'm probably being unfair to Ethan (who probably considers himself an audiophile, and who am I to doubt it?)

Me neither :)
I could always start posting again in this thread if that helps. >). Where did you guys come out since I last visited about 300 posts ago?
The objectivists can't predict what will sound good, and the subjectivists, as one pithy contributor noted, are bouncing around in the dark looking for the holy grail.
Doesn't that sum it up?

Whart,

No it does not. I will address only the second part. Perhaps if you omit the word dark it would be more acceptable, in several senses. One of the issues with subjective assessments is that most of them are not carried in the dark!;)

Somewhat well, and, I think the first 5.30 minutes of this sums it up rather nicely too.

Oh my. Credit goes to Greg for an earlier reference to these you tube videos.

We have something in the law called the Doctrine of Completeness As you might imagine often people want to presnt as evidence the portion of a statment that supports thier argument. The law allows the other side to bring in the complete statement even though it might otherwise be inadmissible. Please take the time, at your leasure, to audit all nine parts. I don't think I ever deneid Stereo is an imperfect illusion. Please cite an example if I did.
As Linkwitz states, it is a workable illusion. He goes on to explain exactly how he makes it work. All forms of music reproduction are an imoerfect illusions Some forms are better than others .

The progression of the ability of the audio manufacturers and recorders to portray a palpable image has progessed over forty years . As an amateru (my involvement in stereo reproduction) I have heard some of the very best portray image that is near holographic. I assume then one who has even more intense or equal exposure to sound reproduction, and has arrived at an opposite conclusion, will not be easily swayed. Assuming, as I must they would make an honest evaluation, the only hope I would have is to present a live demonstration. I lack the equipmnet and the desire to mkae such a demonstration.

It's not that big a deal. Binaural is no threat to stereo because it requires headphones. That is different from solid sate and digial. I continue to fight, not to destroy them ,but to make them better. There are thoise who claim that they are not only as good as they need to be but would not suffer from being less.

... ,

back on OP topic,

Objectivists and Subjectivists are arguing over an ILLUSION....ah yeah, I like that, into my signature line it goes

-----Tom, I'm going to think and analyse the situation real hard about this;
and only then when I'm fully ready that I will share my viewpoint. :b

Agreed. I would also add we know more about the way our rooms interact with our systems and the way to deal with that. We are far from just dropping speakers in any room and expect it to work its best.

As for binaural, I am not yet convinced. Heard it ... not (yet) impressed.
