Rock and Drum videos thread

These last videos sound very good. The sound is very open, airy, and does have good bass. Is the overall tonal balance faithfull to the recording? Hard to tell with a video, but perhaps this is not so important.

I have heard this system in a previous iteration and all those posted then were quite representative, some were recorded during the listening session and some after that, all consistent. Based on that, these seem representative but I haven’t heard the current iteration of this system, will do.

And yes, that iteration was a top system.

BTW, you are listening to tape now so all you and Al are saying you can hear the quality of safety masters over videos on a good system

Thanks for pointing that out.

This is obviously a “large” system - something that I could never consider for my living room, but it is always interesting to understand how it works. Does @christensenleif@msn.com have a description of his system somewhere?

I'm not sure that I would go that far. Yes, you can hear that it has to be a good system, but saying you can hear the quality of the tape specifically gets into sonic detail that the video does not necessarily provide.

Would you be able to hear on video the difference to the vinyl, for example? Not sure about that, unless the two sources were sufficiently different in basic character on those tracks. If the tape had much more bass impact, for instance, you would probably hear that on video.

You missed my point. You are hearing better quality on video because it is a high quality tape, which is better than almost all sources. The LZ3, for example is too bad to post. His vinyl also sounds great, and for those of us who use videos to evaluate both show fantastic quality. But you specifically seem to not use videos to evaluate, but kind of rank it on absolute sound, and are just choosing the best video (s). Anyway, that is also why I prefer mobile phone videos, as they help evaluate better, rather than using gimmicks which improve sound quality of the video but interfere with ability to evaluate

There is a whole playlist on my channel where you can see both iterations of his system play different music, not just rock, also jazz, small and large scale classical including emphasis on different instruments, vocals, and some in mono. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKf6djSgyU2XoAz99MH6jpeomUrKtTc8w&feature=shared
