Violin music videos

Lovely photograph front and centre of your LP12 Don :)
Thank you!

I have three "loves" in my life.... My wife and golden retriever; all things music related; and photography. Boating was another passion of mine, but due to health reasons, I had to sell it.

The photograph you had referenced is shown below. I took this of my wife and my golden. I always like to joke and say... These are my two favorite blonds :) We've been married for over 35 years but it seems like we are still just dating. She is the most amazing person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.... she is my everything!
My golden was born on my birthday. We consider him to be a blessing from our Lord. Another word for our Lord's Blessing is Benediction. So we incorporated Benediction into his registered name, but call him Bene for his everyday call name. He is my little bubba. He goes everywhere with me and does everything with me. He's my listening pal, when playing music. He loves going on adventures with us. He's always at our side supporting and uplifting us, comforting us and loving us :).

It will be interesting to hear his Beethoven on the classic. It is so rapidly played compared to others.

Here is most of Movement 2, through all of 3. More classical era without the razzle-dazzle of some later compositions, but simply gorgeous to have float thro7gh you. Beethoven's music is genius.

This is with the Colibri MS and the Lamm ML2.2.

or if it is the colibri MS - M1.2 combo.

I think it's the Colibri with possibly the VTA + reduced VTF ( 1.4g --> 1.2g, which is @ fair amount.)

edit: RCA LSC 1992 Heifetz, Munch, Boston Symphony Orchestra.
H also recorded the Prokofiev VC with Munch.

Oh, yes indeed! Bruce and I go way back. I have the fondest memories of Salon One.

Ah ha! Yes, I too was his customer -- best audio dealer I've known. From the store in his house to Salon One. I loved driving up there on a crisp autumn day listening to the Metropolitan Opera broadcast. I bought my CJ gear from him and a pair of Audio Physics Avanti Century speakers. You know what triggered my asking you was seeing FMS Zero cables in your equipment list. I had a set of both the IC and speaker cables I got from Bruce. It''s possible we were both there at the same time. What ... 25 yrs ago?

Thanks. Is it possible to play this on the M1.2?

Great memories, for sure! I wish he still had his store.

I think the FMS Zero's are great cables! I'm using those thru the digital side of my system and to my custom EL84 amp and vintage Wharfedale speakers. Did Bruce ever share with you what "FMS" stood for?;)

I my run Acoustic Zen Absolute coppers from my Wavestream Kinetic Deluxe Reference Level 5.1 phono stage, to my First Sound Presence Audio dual mono tube line stage and then to my 845 Single Ended Triode power amp which drives my big Dunlavy SCIV's Signature speakers.

Every time I visited Bruce I would buy a handful of LP's. But I also bought a very nice McIntosh MR67 tubed FM radio; my ProAc Response speakers( I have since given those to my brother and he still enjoys them to this day); my First Sound dual mono tubed line stage; my Hickcock tube tester; my VPI record cleaner; a few Benz wood bodied MC cartridges; my FMS cables; and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few items along the way, lol. Bruce is a great guy and was a true asset to the audiophile community.

Thank you for sharing you memories of Salon One with me!

Best wishes,
Don

Yes, sure. First I do want a little more time with the SET amps.

In that case, tha Tchaikovsky clip on this SET?

FMS cables were designed made by a fellow name Alex Gibson. Originally he was an early designer for Bill Lowe of Audioquest. I believe but not 100% certain that FMS stands for 'Favorite Music Systems'. In addition to the Zero I had an FMS Blue II tonearm cable. There was a time when the Zero was well respected, popular and very hard to find -- hand made to order. Imo, their standout feature is tonality and harmonics. They are e a bit soft in the low end.

For bonzo ...

Here's much of the 1st movement of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto recorded with the Lamm ML2.2 SET amps, Colibri MS cartridge.

Compare with the Lamm M1.2 Reference single tube hybrid / soild-state wilth the same vdH cartridge.

There are plenty of really fine violinists who recorded this piece. Of those I've heard I keep coming back to Jascha Heifetz.

The SET is lighter but more fluid and better overall, perhaps you can try other SS amps (not class D).

Thanks - as expected, his Tchaikovsky recording is much better than the Beethoven, and the videos seem to confirm that this holds true also with the Classic reissue - they are not equating.

The ML2.2 has some more violin agility, but the 1.2 has more control and balance at least on video - it seems to swing up and down more easily. The ML also seems a bit hot/bright, not sure if you are getting those differences in room.

The Heifetz Munch Tchaikovsky is quite good, I also like the Szeryng which is also with Munch and BSO and on RCA. I had compared it directly to much more expensive Milsteinand preferred it. Szeryng is extremely intense - that is the one I have on this thread with the Sigma MAAT Kondo.

Best I have heard is Campoli on Decca, but original is a 1000 or so therefore not buying, and the Testament one even though they claim from tape does not sound good enough.

With Heifetz videos it feels like Youtube is set to 1.25 setting.

The M1.2 is 110W. On some recordings it has a bit more authority. On The Tchaikovsky I can hear it as more emphatic on bass and tympani when the full orchestra plays -- more macro on dynamics while ML2.2 is better on the micro-dynamics The ML2.2 has better timbre in the lower frequencies, well all frequencies. I don't hear brightness in room with either. The ML2.2 might have better top-end extension.

Thanks for the feedback.

I recorded the same music with Zino Francescatti and Mitropoulos but YouTube seems to have slowed the upload. It is 1955 mono on 6-Eye Columbia b/w the Mendelssohn.

There is plenty more Heifetz VC in the box set: Brahms, Profkofiev, Bruch, Glazounov, Rozsa. It may have the only Heifetz copy of the Bruch Scottish Fantasys and the Vieuxtemps Concerto. I don't remember playing either, but I will.

Alot of VC lately, think I will switch to Shosty or Sibelius.

What is that ? speed?

Strange it is missing the Sibelius. His is the best, and the RCA orignal is quite good. His Rozsa is good but I don't like the piece. For Brahms I prefer the Oistralkh, I have the Columbia. Kogan is great on Brahms but too expensive.

Yes - I listen to talks on YT at faster speeds.

My bad -- it does include the Sibelius VC. I agree, top-notch.

I want to get off the Violin music for a while, but can not leave without this thread having some Sibelius. There is a lot of great violin music to hear. The Sibelius Violin Concerto is truly one of the best and Jascha Heifetz is the greatest of its performers I have heard.

Here is the 1st Movement

And the 3rd Movement
