Violin music videos

It makes you want to dance. The flow is so good. Is this a Colibrí? The resolution is very high without being dry, analytical or sterile. I have a sense that you would hear a great deal of information at the listening seat and be carried away by the emotion of the performance.

Yes, a Master Sig. Yes, in room is special to my ears. Love the times Tchaikovsky lets the orchestra break through ... ~ 3:10, 4:50. H is amazing.

Here's another rendition of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto (just a portion) that I really enjoy, performed by Boris Belkin and the New Philharmonia with Vladimir Ashkenazy conducting on Decca vinyl. I've still been having fun exploring these old vintage Wharfedale W60 two-way with Alnico drivers that were made in England back in the 1960's.

Here is yet another rendition (just a portion) of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto performed by Julia Fischer on vinyl. Again, played through the vintage Wharfedale W60's.

Quite the difference in interpretation between Ashkenazy and Reiner.
Yes, indeed. I agree 100% with you Tima.

I love hearing all the different interpretations of great pieces of music. Not just from the conductor's perspective, but especially from the featured soloist's perspective as well.

This afternoon, I have enjoyed listening to Belkin, Fischer and Heifetz all playing the same violin concerto, but yet all being different listening experiences.

I will try and post the same portion from Heifetz shortly to complete the comparison of the three performances.

Best wishes,
Don

Here is the third rendition of a series of three (Belken, Fischer and now Heifetz) that I had the pleasure of listening to today of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto - this one performed by Heifetz/Reiner on vinyl. Again played thru the vintage Wharfedale W-60 two-way's.

So sorry, I'm not sure why it posted sideways.

It's been fun hearing the different interpretations of not only the conductors, but also of the featured soloists.

Best wishes,

Here is Maestro Heifetz with Reiner and the Chicago performing a chunk out of the middle of the 1st movement of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major, Op.35.

RCA LSC-2129 / Classic - this copy from the delightful 9-LP Heifetz box set

Did you do any changes to the system?

Many thanks Don, for the three different renditions. The orchestra comes out great in your system.

That's with the Lamm M1.2 and a Colibri Master Sig. I also made some adjustment to VTA, which I'm still playing with -- maybe I'll go 2 cards less. What do you hear that led you to ask?
It sounds better than your previous videos. Whether you are VTA sensitive and classica record thickness plays better, you will have to check - or if it is the colibri MS - M1.2 combo. Also, this is more isolated to violin, so will be interesting to check some classic records thickness on with orchestra

I'm not particularly sensitive to VTA as long as its close. And I don't make changes based on record thickness. Those Classic Records Heifetz reissues are 180g. Maybe I hit on a good combination. I agree that there is more violin. Do you want more violin music -- several good ones in the Heifetz collection -- or non-concerto orchestral? Or? I have some original Shostakovich I want to record.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

It will be interesting to hear his Beethoven on the classic. It is so rapidly played compared to others.

It will be interesting to see if Shostakovich sounds different from previous

@No Regrets - Don did you ever visit Salon One in Wisconsin Rapids?
Oh, yes indeed! Bruce and I go way back. I have the fondest memories of Salon One.

I would go there often, spending hours there visiting with Bruce, listening to all the latest and greatest gear that he would get in and then always leaving with a pile of records that I would buy from him!

He would always let me bring home gear "that I had interest in" to be able to hear how it might fit into my system. I bought a lot of stuff from Bruce over the decades! Back in the day, there was also a restaurant there called China Palace. I became friends with the owner, Peter. I would always stop and pick up two dinners to go, to bring home for my wife and I after my Salon One escapades :D

There were always a lot of great stereo stores in the Chicagoland area that I would also visit, but none that I enjoyed as immensely as Salon One in little ole Wi Rapids.

I would imagine you may have visited Salon One as well? I wonder if we ever bumped into each other there? I always enjoyed talking about music and audio with the other guests there to. It was as much about a social outing for me as it was discovering new gear.

Best wishes,
Don
