Rupert the largest cat in the world, 2011!!

At three times the size of the average cat, most would think giant pet Rupert has done enough growing for now. But the super-sized feline, who at 20lbs (9kg) could claim to be one of the world's biggest cats, is only half grown and set to gain more weight. The giant breed Maine coon is only half its possible size at nearly three years old, and is expected to put on another 11lbs.

A cat that size wouldn't bring in mice or birds. It would bring in your neighbor's dog.

We once had a tabby that weighed 23 pounds. He was solid. One day, when we lived at Watergate, he got out and into the hallway, where a poodle started barking at him. Henry (our cat) just gave the poodle a right cross with his paw and the poodle went rolling. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Geezer: had your cat met the G Gordon and his crew in the hallway of the Watergate one dark night, the history of our country may have been totally different. :)
Non-political commentary disclaimer.

I hope he doesn't bite when provoked. Like being held aloft. Is that tail swishing?

you guys are forgetting the Savannah Cat which is rated the largest domestic cat. They are banned in several states and can cost up to $30K to buy one

yep, we met a savannah cat (is there just one?) at a cat show in westchester a number of years ago. It looks ungainly, the torso is too long.
when we went 'cat shopping' a decade or so ago (we have egyptian maus), we met a bengal breeder. the cat is a cross between a domesticated cat and an asian steppe cat if memory serves. the breeding cats are not permitted to be sold because they are still to close to the jungle cat. One, sitting in his room sized cage, sat the height of small german shepard and looked at me like one would eye the next meal.
I wouldn't mind having a cat the size of large dog. The UPS guy (or even better, somebody soliciting door to door) sees the critter do that 'jungle pimp roll' -you know how big cats sort of lope along?

I've seen the same Savannahas as Bill at the annual cat show at the Westchester County Center. I actually thought they were smaller, relatively speaking, than expected and not sure they are or aren't bigger than a male Maine Coon.

Asian Leopard cat :) Many mistake Maus for Bengals; a Mau won the title of Best Cat at the CFA show at MSG several years ago. Interestingly, CFA doesn't recognize Bengals or any of the such. OTOH, TICA, which run the Westchester Show does recognize Bengals, Savannahs, Serengetis, etc. The story I was told was that the Mau breeders were threatened by the Bengal breeders (eg. the similarity of breeds save the newest Bengals have more rosetting and color) and had enough of a voice to prevent the CFA from recognizing the breed.

To be sure Bengals are a handful and very demanding; but their upside outweighs their downside, eg. being a little high strung. But you better like a talking cat if you decide to buy a Bengal!

Wow, didn't know you had bengals. the breeder we met was down in central jersey, forget the name of the town, but it was near a very affluent area- she had what amounted to a farm, an old place, not fancy.
The maus are wonderful, very curious, very funny, not terribly friendly to strangers, but very loving to us. they are a bit crazy though, in the same way an abyssian is- smart, high strung, and pretty demonstrative when they are pissed. Our boy talks quite a bit, his favorite is a form of "uh-oh" before he slapshots something off the kitchen counter; then, of course, he stares down at it, like WTF is that doing on the floor? His sister, meantime, keeps a low profile, she is not 'show material,' sort of the mau version of a little bulldog. He's had lot's of weird health issues- she, on the other hand, is bulletproof.

i don't know much about Cats other than how my job is said to be like herding them.

OTOH where i live in the mountains near Seattle we have lots of rabbits and lots of Bobcats, which i see regulary around my property. i love the way they saunter around like they own the place.

the year before i bought the property and the barn was still a real working barn, a Mountain Lion was inside the barn, Animal Control could not get it out, and it had to be euthanized.

Well that was a happy ending to the story.
