I tell you Shane @XV-1 , this ”Vulgar Display Of Power ” in my audioroom, was even more impressive than the ”Midnight Hammer” !! It completely shooked the foundation of the Scandinavian Peninsula .. LOL.. ☝ !!!
Gerry Mulligan is my ideal of a thoughtful jazz musician. He doesn’t have the pedal-to-the-metal histrionics of John Coltrane or the warm lushness of Ben Webster. He’s simply thinking out his thoughts using his baritone sax. Any new unreleased recording of Mulligan is an excuse for popping the champagne corks. Here we have just the reason for opening two champagne bottles.
As it turns out, about 30 years ago in 1992, Mulligan was touring Europe with a trio including Harold Danko on piano, Dean Johnson on bass and Ron Vincent on drums. Their gig in Bologna, Italy, was recorded by Italy's Red Records and released on a double CD available on streaming as well.
Lovely music and while I’m enjoying it with a nice glass of Syrah from a local winery, I wish I was drinking champagne (not my favorite drink!).
The Sisters Of Mercy – Floodland - I generally don't rate anything Mofi, however this is excellent due to the alternate mixes from the original release.
