What's Spinning Tonight?

Hi Ron,

I am very curious about the Zenph Re-Performance of the Glenn Gould Bach variations...have you compared it to the original? I have the Sony 1983 recording. I also have the Rachmaninoff re-performance which i think is quite good (though i have not studied the original recordings of Rachmaninoff playing his own works.)

Thanks for any insight to the Zenph re-performance...i have heard very good things about it.

Never compared as the only other Gould is a Vinyl in storage with my TT's

Now when I first picked this one up a few yrs ago I couldn't stop playing it. Sonics are great and loved the performance, but, suddenly on a night of more serious listening, the performance started to take on a mechanical quality which drove me nuts...stopped playing it for awhile.

Thanks for the fair warning!

Myles,

Have you compared the Decca LP of the Britten to the XRCD? I have the redbook CD on my server, and it's pretty good. Wondering how much of a bump there is to the XRCD....

Hi Lee,

Sorry, wish I could help you but I haven't :) (the obvious reason is my digital equipment hasn't been hooked up in ages :( ) Though haven't heard them in ages, always liked the XRCDs versions. You might want to check with Bruce since he may have done some of them, esp. if it's on Winston Ma's label.

Very nice! Wishbone Ash... now that was a great band.

Agreed, one of my favorite....partial to later lp's, the 2fer New England/Front [age News is a great pickup, IMHO of course. Some fine duel guitar banter there. Course theirs the Distallation set, but those usually always take the tracks out of lp context....
