What's happening to my hearing?

For the past couple of months, I've noticed that I am suddenly (well I am 69) hearing what I would call "grunge" especially in one ear. I mostly notice it with massed strings and massed voices. It doesn't matter what volume or input I've got the system at, I still hear it. It's sounds like a "chhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" riding along with the notes. I have a very fine system so I can't imagine it is the equipment. I hear all the excellent attributes--transparency, imaging, frequency response, detail, et al, that the system usually provides. I went to T.H.E Show in Newport and heard the same "grunge" in every system I listened to all three days. It's to the point of being very annoying and it's hard to listen to music anymore. Is there some condition that might cause this. I've had tinnitus for as long as I can remember and that never seemed to bother me that much, though I knew the ringing was always there. Just wondering if there was something I could do or have checked?

Definitely have your doc or an ENT look in. Might be wax in one or both ears. Possibly tinnitus. Possibly other more important things

I get that when I fly. In my case it is a sinus thing.

you are in Long Beach. I am 30 minutes south and know some excellent ENT docs here
