The equilateral triangle listening position. Is it really the ideal?

IIRC, Dave Wilson's basic separation guideline for set up was that the tweeter separation should be 1, and the distance from your ears to to the tweeter should be 1.2. This works out to 83.33%.

Since 1980 or so, I've always recommended that you start at 83%. Depending on the room and the speaker, I have found that ending up somewhere between 82.5% and 84% has always worked with over 1,000 systems.

IMO - typically, an equilateral triangle (1, 1, 1) will yield even more precise imaging, but at the price of a somewhat thinner tone and therefore less musical engagement, but definitely more attention to the sound. Especially with Wilsons.

Out of interest, have you found the same ratio also applies to dipolar ribbon speakers? I'm now using Alsyvox speakers...

Levitator .. some good info on dipoles and room layout here ( assuming you have not seen it before) .. not the answer to your question usefull stuff
