The End Of A 35 Year Journey ---Zellaton -The Reference Ultra Final Frontier

I did not and would not have believed it without seeing and hearing it. Yesterday I visited Steve's home where he hosted an event for the new Lampizator Aphrodite. His system sounded spectacular. Most shocking was the bass. His Zells are rated at 91dB and his amps put out 30 watts. In my experience that means that bass will never be great. But, it was! They sounded spectacular. To my ears, Steve's system always sounded good. But with the Wilsons I always very clearly heard that metal dome tweeter. With the Zells I hear only music. Well done, Steve!

Hearing is believing Patrick I’m so glad you attended. You weren’t alone in your thoughts 100% of attendees said that the notion of my amps not being able to drive the Zellaton was a non issue as was the constant banter that I. Refer subs. Those 9” woofers do what the 15” Wilson drivers couldn’t.

It was great you could make it Pat

In anticipation of the arrival of my own Zellaton Ultras I traveled down to sunny Southern California to visit the heralded OneObGyn. Aside from the glorious music, I really enjoyed meeting some of Audiodom’s titans. I was so impressed by their humility which always seems to be the case with authentic genius. The world class stereo impressed as did the feeling I was with “my people”.
As always the reconnection with the audiophile community was as satisfying as the validation that my future speakers are as good as I hoped they could be. Thanks to Steve and his gracious wife for the lovely hospitality!

Billy it was such a pleasure to meet you. I’m so happy you had a good time. I’m sure you’re counting the days until your speakers arrive. They really are remarkable

I thought that I would post this link from Lukasz Fikus owner and CEO of Lampizator who traveled from Poland to spend the last 4 days at my house where with a crowd of 30 attendees he unveiled his new Aphrodite DAC. He had never heard Zellaton before so I thought this. link would reveal some fresh thoughts

I was very interested in a comment Lukasz kept making as he was somewhat taken back by the bass response produced by the Reference Ultra. We played many times the song Queen Mary when we were doing an A/B/A test of the stock tubes vs all my vintage NOS tubes for the new DAC. Lukasz has heard my system on 2 other occasions when I had the big Wilson's which had a 13" woofer and a 15" sub......that song has deep bass that rattles your ass every time it was played. He kept going over the the new speaker while the song was playing and had his index finger on the 9" woofer during the era departs of the song and he kept stating that he could not believe that the woofers were barely moving unlike the prior 13" and 15" drivers on the Wilson and yet the deep bass was beyond anything any of us had ver heard with that song

The final caveat which brought a chuckle to everyone was when we walked out of the room, .....I have 2 large paintings on the outside wall one on either side of the door. The one on the left side of the door was off the picture hook and sitting on the floor. I had node why and asked my wife....she said that when we played that song the large picture began to shake very rapidly and she felt it need to be removed before it falls off the wall and breaks.

I mention this once again only to suggest again that the Zellaton played with my 32 wpc Lamm amps produced a remarkable bass response convincing all who were present that the Lamm amps can amply drive the speaker and also produce a bass response with 9" woofer that could never be matched with my prior Wilson speakers. Everyone present said, the amps are just one and there is no need for a subwoofer.

I think we can once and for all put both those notions aside now
