a visitor to my room from a few years back wrote a letter to the Editor in this month's Stereophile which i think speaks to the best part of the audiophile culture. he just texted me a screen shot i thought i would share. i love this stuff.

Interesting.
I've had more than a few friends via the Internet in audio and automotive pursuits.
Like childhood and college friendships they are difficult to maintain as interests change.

Most of us here are closer to our life’s destination and our outlook is different compared to when we were in school or when we were close to the parents of our children’s friends. And work friends are different. So we now have evolved.
Audiophile friends might start out from different points but are relevant to where we are now. We share values mostly and life perspectives generally. Yet respect and accept our differences while enjoying what we have in common.
It’s a good secure fit and I can say over many years of visitors it’s degrees of good times. Mostly outstanding and memorable. Makes my life better.

About the time I re-entered this hobby, I began to learn about wine from a neighbor and a friend/colleague of my wife. As my system has evolved, so has my palate and knowledge of wine. Both seem to be never ending in relation to pursuit, acquisition, and enjoyment. Audiophiles and oenophiles are similar I think, as the greatest joys and experiences come in the sharing of our passion and discoveries. Best when the two coincide, makes for some remarkable and memorable evenings.
I've got a close friend for life in Barry aka Blue58, courtesy of being matchmaked by Mark "Mr. Sablon" Coles. A really unexpected bonus of being in the hobby. Our meets are always fantastically good fun and full of new music and great playback. Critically the friendship is based on our shared interest, but just catching up is great even if we aren't discussing music. And I do have Barry to thank for some critical pointers twds way better sound here. He certainly doesn't put up w TOO much pretentious system hyperbole from me, and our analog v digital jousting keeps our sarcastic reflexes sharp and frosty.
