Congratulations indeed. The stuff of legend. Would be most curious to read about a direct comparison between the outgoing CEC and the incoming Esoteric P-01.

Will report back with findings as soon as possible he pickup the Teac yesterday from Toronto and he lives in Montreal so i imagine after a 12 hours drive he did not do much listening when he got home.:)

PS: Here is a photo of the system before the new purchase.

thanks! beautiful! I am not too familiar with Jadis or Lamm...where is the DAC? I did not think Lamm makes one, so presumably Jadis DAC?

Thanks...good to know. I know someone who has that DAC now...after selling it years ago and moving to other various SOTA digital systems...and he is very happy to be back with it again.

My friend Elrocco as done it again, after purchasing the Esoteric P-01 he as just purchased the Zanden 2000 Premium he will compare both in his system and keep the one that he prefers, my bet goes on the Zanden and yes i have heard both.

PS: Esoteric makes very good units BUT i like a WARMER sound, maybe not the real thing BUT i can listend for many many hours.:)

Hi after comparing both units more detail with the Esoteric P-01 BUT he misses the warmth of the CEC TL-0X for this reason there is another transport on it's way the Zanden 2000 Premium, will get back to you later.

wow...that is interesting...i think he might quite like the 2000P. The key is the best output from that Transport is the i2s which is proprietary to the Zanden DAC. Next best i believe is the bnc output if that helps. Most interested to hear more from your friend...thanks for the update. Fun.

Frankly, i dont know what 'the real sound' is with recordings that have been made through various setups, processed by a sound board, and all tuned by a recording engineer/master. After all, each CD was recorded and mastered slightly (if not significantly) differently.

What i DO know is when a few recordings i like sound as close to the real live instrument as possible...i leave it at that, regardless of whether i think the original recording guys actually had that particular sound in mind. And fortunately, as i have found in my 'reference recordings' the sound becomes 'more real'...i generally find i am also increasingly happy with the rest of my collection. Works for me.

Coming back to your post, on that score, i really do find the Zanden 2000P/5000S with all the various tweaks i have applied to it...works just fine for me. Probably no longer the last word in detail, but the tonal qualities of the instruments/voices are superb imho, and i really enjoy that.

Mr. Acoustat...yes, i am blessed to be able to have these toys...i remind myself of this and many other far greater blessings every single day.

That said, i could easily have spent double on equipment that was not for me...and found myself rotating through more and more auditions. we see it everyday in audiophile-dom. so i suppose i am equally blessed to have actually found these particular toys which suit me.

The Magic of the Zanden is via its i2S link , more of a even playing field here . Would have thought the Estoeric would complement the warm Jadis DAC well . Look forward to hearing more ....

My friend finds the Esoteric just a bit to lively compared to his CEC TL0X, whe will wait and see ( hear ) :) how the Zanden 2000 premium matches the Jadis dac, all these seperate components are way out of my league, i have owned more than 10 units since 1983 all of them ONE BOX, for me it as always been Keep It Simple. :)

Congrats on the P-01 purchase! I own the K-01 and it's the one component I never considered upgrading. It's sounds that great.

From today's The Audiobeat website:

"Even with Zanden's full lineup of electronics, we still think of this Japanese company as being a digital specialist, because its Model 2000P transport and Model 5000S DAC remain the best CD-playback hardware we've heard. The new Model 500 ($7500 estimated price) is Zanden's first USB DAC and its first digital product that decodes data above CD resolution -- both PCM and DSD. In addition to USB, it features I²S input, which Zanden has championed with its other digital products, along with Zanden’s patented analog filter that maintains superior phase coherence. AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital inputs are also included, as are XLR and RCA analog outputs.

Given Zanden's expertise with CD playback, this DAC has us more excited about file playback than ever before."
