Agreed. Now that the update is optimized and ready for the masses, the last iteration from today is truly magical. Fasten the seat belts.

Yes, but it depends on what dac one will be using which will determine which usb they will be using. I do not believe it's just usb6, it's the last iteration and your dac happens to be matched with usb6.

Last minute I managed to boost TAS sound quality to be more competitive again. I’ll leave comparisons for those who feel like it.

We have decided to make Roon the default on system startup. To use TAS you will have to launch the TAS remote and switch to TAS.

As we have integrated a part of TAS into the new USB driver, being of obvious mayor benefit to Roon, you will have to set TAS buffers to Auto or it will not play. See the attached screenshot.

OH GEEEZZZZZ GO TO BED:p I'M SO HAPPY WITH THE ROON INTERFACE AND THE SOUND. I don't even want to hear if TAS sounds better. It doesn't matter:0)

I have just finished enjoying a listening session of Bill Evans Trio ?–https://www.highdeftapetransfers.ca...llys-manne-hole-hollywood-california-pure-dsd

Up until yesterday - this dsd256 album, locally stored in Extreme (or my other dsd256 The great reunion by Duke Ellington och Louis Armstrong) did not sound very exciting at all.

Then came a rather intense and analytical set of sessions orchestrated by Taiko...

These are the results in my system:

1644788638521.png

The general OS upgrade included the setting 8192.

My dsd256 albums started to sound good at 256 - with larger buffer size they were not enjoyable.

Via a few iterations, maximum joy was found at 128 and 192 - I could not tell them apart - both settings -> stellar sq.

With the smallest buffer (64) the soundstage fell apart and sq went south.

The Bill Evans album is so so nice! And the recording is stellar - with the optimal dsd-setting for your dac you are up for a very nice experience!

I respect your decision to not divulge how you were able to boost Roon’s sound quality. What has baffled me was that TAS didn’t scale to the same level that Roon did. Except for the inclusion of LMS, TAS was optimized for great sound quality. Roon was not. Anything you might be able to divulge about what was either holding back TAS or what it was about Roon that better positioned it for a bigger gain? And like I said, I would absolutely respect you declining to answer.

Steve,

That is an amazing sounding piece. Can’t wait to hear it after my update.

You hit the nail on the head: “DFA is in the room”: Not just near field listening.. but the whole room disappears and is transported to the recording venue!

Good morning,

When the update has been applied you can load the appropriate USB profile, for which profile to use see the table at the end of this post, those are located on your desktop and you can execute them by right-clicking and selecting "Run with Powershell". The Extreme will then reboot and the profile will be active.

USBprofile.png

Next you have to select the appropriate output bit rate in Roon according to the same table.

@Emile, @Taiko Audio wondering if some of this marvelous OS upgrade can be applied to EVO.

Look forward to your advice. Cheers.

Hi @rocco1113 ,

Unfortunately no, it needs 2 CPUs and those need to be Intel Xeon Scalable. We will attempt to port XDMS to the EVO, but the USB driver will not work, despite the EVO having a pretty fast overclocked Intel core i7-770K CPU, it will still drop out.

You can upgrade to an Extreme with a 100% refund of your EVO purchasing price.

First hour report, 20 extremes updated, 3 minutes on average, not bad at all, 5 minute coffee break!
Go Emile Go! I just had the picture of the magnificent header by Robin van Persie against the Spanish Team in the 2014 World Cup come to mind. Where Robin did one in the game of 90 minutes (ok actually two), Emile is doing 20 in an hour!!
