Speaker distance from front wall - audiophile vs studio?

True, I don't know why distance (space?) from the front wall makes such a difference, only that it does. BTW, if room boundaries seem to be affecting your system's imaging, you're probably not listening true nearfield.

My ears are significantly closer than the room boundaries. Trust me; this is near field. But the room is not dead. There are still reflections and those reflections still get to my ears, though you're probably right that they don't impact imaging much. I've got a phantom center you could chew on.

Near field speaker placement reduces the impact of room boundaries, it don't make them irrelevant.

Clearly, ideal placement distance from the front wall is speaker, room, system dependent. There is no concrete/standardized rule in this regard, imo.

Especially speaker dependent. I have found only sealed or front ported will work up against the front wall. This is why I like the XLF's, which can be either front or rear ported.

my X-2.2's are front ported only so they are only 3 feet from the front wall in a room I set up on the long side. I bet I would have bass boom if they were rear ported. Me think's if you have a big room and have more distance from front wall, rear porting option on the XLF would be best for bass... Tighter quarters, front port.
