New to Gryphon - Diablo 333

So, back to discussing speakers.

I am now thinking that I should hang on to my Cantatas and use them close to a rear wall, and that their sealed design is actually a better solution than the ported EOS-2.

The Cantatas have a separate Q controller box that allows you to experiment with Q values. The system is designed to work with the bass gain of rooms in rolling off bass.

You used to be able to order a specific Q value for the box. That option is probably no longer available.

This will give me five boxes, messing up my plan for a four box rack, lol. I could switch to an integrated DAC in the 333.

Thoughts?

Thanks for all the advice.

I had contemplated the LinQ but maybe I will give it more thought now that I will be significantly shrinking my system.

Adding the LinQ will require another shelf.

I am giving careful thought to the room dimensions you mentioned because we will wind up in around 80 square meters in Dublin, with a small living room. It’s going to be tough to find a decent place.

I also have an upright piano, lol, a Yamaha DYUS5. We are thinking of a modern apartment building but need one that has a lift that accommodates the piano. Note, pianos can be put on end for short rides in an elevator.

I agree about getting rid of the CD player and turntable. I simply cannot get rid of my FM tuner because, I like to listen to humans tell me about music and the local area.

For a while, I dated a classical DJ. I loved hanging out in the studio. Before that, I had listened to her in my car, for years.

My T-1000 is about the best tuner Accuphase ever made,

Hi LarryK

I have had my Linq for a few years now, and love it, I have the HQPlayer and NAA cards installed and I have a Roon lifetime subscription, I like the fact that with this set up Roon does not impart any of its own DSP, here is a link you may find interesting :

Christiaan Punter the author of this review is I find one of the better Reviewers out there, hope this helps, good luck with whatever you happen to choose.

I have recently been thinking / dreaming of the 333 as my Atilla is getting a bit long in the tooth now, though it pumps a respectable 200w at 4ohms into my present speakers which are 4ohm impedence, (Diablo Evo's are on the radar though and the TAD CE1 are always in my thoughts)...mind you I do have a nervous itch to try a quality SET amp by someone like VAC, Airtight etc, those Focal tweeters can get a bit harsh / shrill on certain material, have managed to tamed them somewhat recently with my newly treated room.

Cheers

Thanks for the link to the review.

I’m glad you like your LinQ. I’m willing to give it a try.

I believe I can stash the LinQ on the top shelf, behind a television, so, it could still work with one rack.

That’s the absolute limit for me, though, unless I buy a separate rack.

What do you think of my reasoning that my sealed Cantatas are a better match for a small room than the EOS-2s? This assume they’re both being placed close to a rear wall.
